If there is no spiritual and everything is material, the only rational thing is doing everything for the sake of ruthless survival, best scenario to thrive.

Also, there's no top from which you cannot fall. The reward of ambition is constant fear of losing everything one day.
And even if that won't come to pass, you will die one day anyway and lose everything.

Because people of Christian faith believe in the God who rewards your deeds according to what you can do and not according to what you have achieved.
