>>22895329It's an online initiative to make designing games that stop working after support ends (like always-online service games) illegal in the EU and UK. Some people are against it because it implies more government regulation in the market, which often ends wrong.
>>22895329tl;dr Ross "the mold man" "freeman's mind" "game dungeon" Scott set up an EU petition to force publishers to allow for local server support on live-service or other online-only games after official support ends so that games don't become lost media
Notorious mainly because Pirate Software, a streamer and low-grade game developer with an apparent history of ferret killing and Second Life asset selling with a Wikifur article as "Maldavius Figtree", deliberately misinterpreted what it was about ten months ago and screamed and sharted whenever corrected or confronted about it and used his much larger audience to stymie its progress.
>>22895341>it implies more government regulation in the market, which often ends wrong.gamers are fucking retarded man
>>22895344>with an apparent history of ferret killingwhat.
>>22895355lets learn from the past with this one:
>gaming companies have shown that they do not care what their playerbase thinks>gaming companies have shown that they do not care about how much you cry on the internet>gaming companies do not care about how much you call their game shit because you're gonna hate buy it anywayThe honest to god only way these companies are gonna back down is if a government or someone obscenely rich steps in and lays the fucking hammer down.
The reason it takes so longer for GG to get even the remotely smallest win is because they just throw tantrums and hope someone listens. Literally anita sharkladg backed down was because she got bored.

>>22895432>the goal that will require it to be considered for lawlmao
games will become the new big-budget films
built completely on hype and word of mouth for 3 months, costs $100,000,000+ to make, ultimately disposable, etc
there's no movie theater equivalent exactly, but normies will still make plans to play the games together over the weekend or whatever, before quickly moving on
superfans of a particular game ("whales") can be milked with microtransactions, the same way superfans of movies were milked with plastic toys and other merchandise in the past
you're never gonna own big-budget games for more than a year ever again, no law will protect you
even if this somehow does something, they'll just quietly keep trying again
i just wonder how indie games will fit into it

>>22895341most people who are against it because they don't understand it because one big streamer constantly lies about it
>you shouldn't force developers to support games forever!not what it does
>We are in favor of publishers ending support for a game whenever they choose. What we are asking for is that they implement an end-of-life plan to modify or patch the game so that it can run on customer systems with no further support from the company being necessary. We agree that it is unrealistic to expect companies to support games indefinitely and do not advocate for that in any way. Additionally, there are already real-world examples of publishers ending support for online-only games in a responsible way, such as:>'Gran Turismo Sport' published by Sony>'Knockout City' published by Velan Studios>'Mega Man X DiVE' published by Capcom>'Scrolls / Caller's Bane' published by Mojang AB>'Duelyst' published by Bandai Namco Entertainment>etc.it's also not retroactive so it doesn't affect current/old games and lets devs develop new games with an end-of-life plan in mind
it also doesn't force devs to implement 100% of all features ever available, just that the game is left in a reasonably playable state
there are videos clearing things up and the official faq dispels all misconceptions but most people are too lazy and don't care about confirming information
>go to stopkillinggames.com>click faqway too much work

>>22898467Trump is a postmodern president. He's the first politician to realize that nobody gives a fuck about anything in the modern era while having the utter lack of principles (and natural charisma) to leverage that fact into real political capital. You can point out that he hasn't followed through on basically any campaign promise he's ever made as much as you want - nobody cares. Nobody gives a shit about anything except getting from one avenue of escapism to the next, and political theater is just one of those avenues. It's entertainment. Engagement bait. You can do whatever the fuck you want so long as it gets views and nobody's willing to arrest you for it; if it's a horribly embarassing fuck up, just pretend it didn't happen and move on to the next thing.
I know that people saying that we're in the end times has been happening since pre-history, but we're really, actually cooked this time. There's no coming back from the direction the world is going. We are actively creating Hell on Earth.
>>22898487Sounds pretty familiar.
>>22898505People have noticed the trend and have been warning people about it as far back as the 60's (or the 17th century if you want to talk dangers of nihilism as a whole), but the average human cannot resist the allure of hedonistic nihilism, by and large. Life hasn't gotten any more or less inherently meaningless, but people have become a lot more aware of that meaninglessness and are responding to it with fairly predictable patterns of mental illness, self destruction, and/or rampant displacement of their frustration onto complete strangers. People with the ability to do so exploit this to make their own lives better, as basically anyone would do in their position. We're built for this. It's not evil, it's not a grand conspiracy, it's actual fate.
>>22898487I agree with those sentiments mostly. Especially with regards to a lack of integrity and belief. I used to be quite politically active and was organizing young right wing men in my city and province.
Nobody who matters believes in anything at all. It is 100% hollow aesthetic. People who "don't" matter even moreso. It is entirely performative and it isnt exclusive to right wing circles. I have been around both in all kinds of contexts and settings.
I don't know about Trump though. I do believe he is actively grifting and that he knows what he's doing. He's also got a massive ego and that severely clouds his judgment. A little from column A a little from column B.
Look at what Israel did with him. He actually believed bibi when he told him there would be a ceasefire and the war would wind down and he'd be remembered as the great peace broker of the middle east. The only cost was america committing to a significant act of war against Iran. This didnt even happen in the cold war.
Right now we are witnessing a global war which has not been declared by anyone yet. Why? Who knows. The reality is that america is actively engaging enemies through proxies on every continent except their own. Russia has been in Ukraine 3 years. No declaration of war. The US bombs Iranian nuclear facilities, an undeniable act of war, no war declared. The poos are launching missiles at eachother. No war declared.
We are treading into dangerous territory where the status quo of conflict in terms of its meta is being redefined. We may see a future where they just don't bother doing it anymore. This kind of action promises endless war, there is a reason treaties and official declarations have been a matter of statecraft and warfare for thousands of years.
We're heading down the cosmic drain rn
>>22898513well, it's like those rat utopia experiments and the final generation "the beautiful ones". After a few generations of having all needs met without any real effort, the rats would start isolating. Spending all their time eating and grooming themselves doing nothing practically. The weren't interested in breeding. They just wanted to sit around, eat and partake in a sort of an act of vanity.
We aren't rats, obviously. But it is strange, the parallels. Adversity and struggle is the crucible of strength and resolve, practically universally.

>>22898535>would you say that without any laws, people would be raping, murdering and stealing?I think if you told a guy that you'd pay him a billion dollars to personally shoot one thousand people in the head, he would say no. I think that if you offered the same guy the same deal, except all he had to do was sign a piece of paper that made some other guy shoot one thousand people in the head, he'd say yes. People are usually kind, empathetic, and reasonable if you get to know them on a personal level, but the more we buy in to outrage culture and tribalism the less that happens.
To be clear, I don't think anything especially dramatic is going to happen. I think kind of along the same lines as
>>22898517, in that people will become increasingly vapid while the world gets increasingly bland and ugly, with all of this being used as an excuse for the ever-expanding enrichment of a small group of people who happen to be in the right places at the right times.

back in 2008 online conversations felt nice. If you logged on, it meant you had CHOSEN to log on. Someone messaged you the moment you got online? That was great, they had been WAITING for you and noticed you. Now, everyone is leaving shit on read, ghosting conversations, throwing half-phrases into the void.
push a button to wipe out the smartphone and the world gets better

but even the concept of comparing 4chan to other image boards to get a gauge on different political/social communities makes no sense because 4chan is far bigger and already holds a monopoly on image board culture. it's like trying to compare /pol/ to /leftypol/ to see how different ideologies behave online; obviously the latter will just adopt most all the customs of the former, most of the people who know it knew/went to /pol/ first, and the ones that aren't avoided it because they see all IBs as 4chan and don't want to associate with it.

PLEASE GOD LISTEN TO ME. If you see a thread with CSEM on it, do not engage. Simply report, hide, and move on. DON'T even try to reason with those "people". It is time wasted that could be spent on reporting the material.
>>22905321>why are these threads always on /g/Lack of moderation.
>>22905321Basically what the frogtard said. /g/ has by far the worst moderation of the "fast" boards, so after mods began to purge /tv/ of pedoniggers that were using the board to talk about child models from social platforms the pedos went to /g/ (where anime and loli in particular are seen in a much more positive light) and continued with their usual antics. The "niece" spam is one of these pedoniggers making daily threads about little girls for his fellow pedos and to annoy mods and the rest of /g/.
In addition to this, /g/ spawned another group of pedos and porn addicts (the /cumg/ cabal that nowadays uses Leto's proxies to post CP) that were obsessed with loli porn (and children) and used stuff like PEE to spread loli and pedoshit on /g/ and /v/, bringing the attention pedos and porn addicts from /tv/ and /v/ and making things worse until mods and devs killed PEE and banned their general.
