So let me get this straight. basically Sam went on this podcast for a serious interview. But Harland is layers deep in irony and sarcasm, even more than Sam, and Harland spent the entire interview talking nonsense which triggered Sam to push back, but then Sam realized he couldn’t crack Harlands persona so he got physical (albeit in a tame light hearted way) and still couldn’t crack Harlands character. Sam loves irony and shock value because they give him an advantage over whoever he's interacting with. He sees comedy as a power play, which is why so much of his comedy is about humiliating random Craigslist actors. It's sadism. completely untrue. they became friends after Norm moved to Toronto but they had a falling out before he moved to New York and they never reconciled as friends again. Norm never bothered to reach out despite the fact that he knew he had cancer. Norm made amends with many people but never with Harland. he definitely wasn't fond of him past their initial friendship in the 80s.
