Well the space race astronauts mostly just missed WW2 but they were all test pilots in the early jet age which was nuts enough.

As for the WW2 generation of course now we all know were the goods guys and who were the good goys and who were tricked into destroying Europe and who wasn't etc., but it's hard to deny that the WW2 generation on both sides was the peak human performance of conflict and technology there has ever been.

Combined arms mechanised warfare, infantry fighting tanks, urban combat full of machine guns encompassing entire cities at once, high performance dogfights in aluminium frames with engines and guns attached, submarines made of 1940s tubing and diesel engines, test pilots in rocket planes that could spontaneously explode, commandos, paratroopers. And it was millions of those guys, many just plucked off the street.
Scientists experimenting with jet engines, rockets, missiles, nuclear bombs. That shit was crazy and no amount of battlefield heroism and lunacy in equal measure has ever been seen before or since.

I think boomers have a crippling inferiority complex because of it.

They did that but then wrote laws that prevent all that. They brought in immigrants by the truck load so now it’s not safe for kids to play outside unsupervised. They run the businesses that eliminated pensions and bought up all the affordable housing. In the 70s you could work a summer and afford the next year of college. They outsourced manufacturing overseas, switch to low quality goods and created planned obsolescence so you can’t fix things. Everything they did in youth, they’ve outlawed, outsourced and destroyed. Current generation can’t do a thing the boomers claimed they did because boomers destroyed the ability to do all of them.
