If we had the resources then we would have build 1 million easy to fix max production tanks but our biggest problem was oil. What use are masses of tanks when you have no oil? If you actually look at it, every country built the best possible tank for their needs.
US: has to go across every ocean and fight in every environment from tundra to jungle. Made to be shipped easily in a box and have easily maintained parts.
USSR: tanks don't last that long, so why build a tank that will last a long time if it takes too long to build, numbers are needed, make them quick first, good comes later.
Germany: Barely any oil or people, so therefore it doesn't matter if we could build hundreds of steel boxes if we only have the crew and fuel for one. So build one tank good and have your fingers crossed.
UK: Limited in what they can make on their island without having factory tooling getting blown up in the Atlantic, decide that they can make more weaker engines than a few strong engines, especially since ground war only happens after the navy and air forces can actually get the ground forces where they need to go and therefore the spitfires and destroyers get the priority. What can be made with the capacity that is left over is the infantry support idea.
Italy: Big tanks are useless in the mountains, and their industry couldn't support making those anyway. Tankettes are perfect for mountainous terrain.

This tank, called the "mouse" I believe, never saw combat. And the armor designs of the panzer influenced tank design forever. Their engines being over engineered and requiring a specialized mechanic which was seldom available in the battlefield is likely true though, however the battle output that a panzer produced typically massively outproduced all other tanks on the battlefield. In 1939 German census says 79.7 million.
That doesn't include the millions of German settlers in Eastern Europe who were recruited into the German army.
According to a census in Russia in 1939 the Russian population numbered at 109.4 million however this hugely overcounted since the original census workers did an accurate counting which found the real number was far lower than what Stalin's propaganda claimed so the original census workers were arrested and/or executed.
So in effect, the German and Russian populations were about equal in number.
Now factor in all the axis powers that invaded USSR, the axis outnumbered the Soviets for most of the war. The bulk of the fighting was done by the Russians while other Soviet states like Ukraine remained under German occupation for most of the war so could not be used to replinish manpower by the red army.

Stalingrad gets mythologized by the soviets because it was their first real, unequivocal victory in the war but in the wider scheme of things it didn't really matter.
Part of the problem with the historiography of WW2 is that until the 90s, the english-speaking world had virtually no direct access to any concrete records pertaining to the eastern front. We just had soviet accounts to go by, and their accounts were obviously pure propaganda.

We now understand that Stalingrad was an act of desperation on the part of the Germans. They were running out of fuel. They needed to make a mad dash for the oil fields of the Caucasus or lose the war. Stalingrad was meant to be a holding attack to support the flank of that offensive. In this it succeeded, despite the heavy cost. However that offensive failed separately, independent of the Stalingrad battle and left Germany unable to secure an alternative source of oil. It failed more or less because the spearheads outpaced their supply lines, ran out of fuel and spare parts and eventually just fizzled.

With insufficient fuel stockpiles, Germany steadily de-mechanized over the course of 43/44, which led to a situation where they could not afford the fuel necessary to maintain initiative and had to simple sit and wait to be attacked to conserve resources, and gradually limit their use of tanks in those defensive battles more and more. The soviets chipping away at German lines found them simply hollowing out ahead of the attacks, rotting from within due to their failing industry and the escalating costs of fighting on multiple fronts.

From the beginning of the war, Germany was on a time limit. Their defeat became inevitable as soon as they were stopped shot of Moscow, and the near-suicidal dash to Baku just demonstrated how desperate their situation had become already.

An important fact in WW2 is that Axis treated prisoners of war very badly, and showed no concern for the deaths of civilians. If you remove civilian deaths (which were actually the bulk), and instead look at just military in terms of killed or died in captivity it looks like this:

Soviet:
6.3 - 6.5 million KIA (or died from wounds)
2.5 - 3.3 million exterminated in captivity
8.7 - 9.8 million total

Axis:
2.7 - 3.3 million KIA (or died from wounds)
0.4 - 1.0 million died in captivity
3.6 - 4.3 million total

More than half of all Axis held prisoners died in captivity, while less than 1 in 10 Soviet held prisoners died. This is important for anyone that finds themselves in a war with a Western power. It shows that you should not surrender, as you will likely die anyway and suffer much more. And since they're just killing prisoners, you may as well also. Leading by example doesn't work with the West, because our entire history is fiction or 'good guys' going to war against 'evil dictators' and some how acquiring all the loot.
