>โ€œMastercard did not communicate with Valve directly, despite our request to do so,โ€ Valveโ€™s statement sent over email to Kotaku reads. โ€œMastercard communicated with payment processors and their acquiring banks. Payment processors communicated this with Valve, and we replied by outlining Steamโ€™s policy since 2018 of attempting to distribute games that are legal for distribution. Payment processors rejected this, and specifically cited Mastercardโ€™s Rule 5.12.7 and risk to the Mastercard brand.โ€
it's not that much text but i'll point out the important parts for people who are scared of long text.
>Mastercard did not communicate with Valve directly, despite our request to do so
valve said they directly requested communication with mastercard and mastercard didn't reply.
>we replied by outlining Steamโ€™s policy since 2018 of attempting to distribute games that are legal for distribution. Payment processors rejected this, and specifically cited Mastercardโ€™s Rule 5.12.7 and risk to the Mastercard brand.
direct explicit specific citation of mastercard rule 5.12.7.
https://www.mastercard.us/content/dam/public/mastercardcom/na/global-site/documents/mastercard-rules.pdf
>5.12.7 Illegal or Brand-damaging Transactions
>A Merchant must not submit to its Acquirer, and a Customer must not submit to the Interchange System, any Transaction that is illegal, or in the sole discretion of the Corporation, may damage the goodwill of the Corporation or reflect negatively on the Marks.
now for speculation. i know this isn't novel but the timing of everything makes me wonder if mastercard is going to eventually relent. "ok ok you can reinstate those games to your platforms... but you need to enact robust age verification processes." more normalization of online age verification. seriously it's all happening so fast. uk and australian laws coming into enforcement and microsoft this week saying they don't expect to keep it uk-only. also gay captcha.

The guys who run the actual digital infrastructure that makes it so that when you punch your credit card number into a website, the transaction is logged, transmitted to the card company, your bank, the vendor's bank, etc. Stripe is a big one and got mentioned a thread or two ago, but I'm sure there are others I don't know or have forgotten.

Reading Mastercard's actual rule makes me think there's a ripe opportunity for a rival card company to set up, assuming Mastercard, Visa, and Amex haven't collaborated so closely with the feds that regulations effectively have killed the ability for a startup to compete with them. But a company reserving the right to unilaterally drop you as a customer because you're bad for business will always leave a window for those with fewer scruples, assuming the economy is actually open.

Additionally, if you're the politically active type in the US and you're hating how this is going, might I suggest taking a crack at floating this to your elected officials? Debanking is getting to be a thing among some sectors of the right and there's been moves to punish banks for cutting off services for disfavored businesses. I can't promise you success, after all these guys aren't selling guns or Christian-themed books but porn with yucky fetishes, but there's something to be said for taking a shot.

reposting the source for the xbox age verification expansion.
https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2025/07/28/xbox-age-verification-uk/
>There are several easy and secure methods for age verification that players can choose from, including proof of government-issued ID, age estimation, mobile provider check, and credit card check.
some ways.
>As this age verification process rolls out across the UK, weโ€™ll continue to evaluate how we can keep players around the world safe and learn from the UK process. We expect to roll out age verification processes to more regions in the future. There is no one-size-fits-all solution to player safety, so these methods may look different across regions and experiences.
expecting more regions.

>there's a ripe opportunity for a rival card company to set up, assuming Mastercard, Visa, and Amex haven't collaborated so closely with the feds that regulations effectively have killed the ability for a startup to compete
i'm no expert but i will add it's not just about regulatory bodies but also about the whole fintech web. there may possibly also be collusion with the payment processors and banks.

The entirety of the American right-wing elite is seizing power and they're making rulings and choices that suggest they believe they're never going to ever lose power. After Trump loses presidency either they're going to remain in power or they're going to be put under a guillotine, probably the former because the Democratic Party is totally ineffectual (and hates the left wing, it is not a left wing or even centrist party itself; a lot of Democrat office holders are "temporarily embarrassed Republicans") and would never suggest any kind of punishment

Funny how quickly everyone forgets about left wing cancel culture and ridiculous shit like statues being torn down, maple syrup and sports teams being renamed, Gillette bitching about men in their commercials, Tropes vs. Women in Video Games, digging up decades-old tweets to cancel someone, etc. In fact, the entire concept of targeting credit card companies and banks to cancel a company started with the Obama administration under "Operation Choke Point." Do you feel that customizing the colors would provide a significant benefit when comparing boards?
I'd have to figure out where those additional UI elements should be placed, where they don't get in the way too much for people that just want to quickly click a board and see the stats, but also not be too out of sight and unintuitive to the point where barely anyone ends up using it.

Displaying everything nicely on mobile is probably an even greater challenge.
The board list and threads are perfect for rendering them on a vertical mobile screen, but the chart isn't suitable at all in its current form.
If a user switches to landscape mode to interact with the chart, then the boards and threads will look terrible.

Both raceplay threads do it, as well as several of the more generic fap threads. /v/ is a frequent, though not their exclusive, target.

Given that they are organized into discords at this point, it may be too late to crush them by eliminating /trash/. But given that their threads remain active, I have hope that it would break their spirit and scatter them.

/g/ represents lost potential perhaps more than any other board in recent memory. At one point, in what, 2021, it became the focal point of AI for hobbyists due to model leaks being posted there. There was the meta llama1 text model leak and then the Stable Diffusion and then NovelAI leaks which were used for 2D images. Even a few major players like automatic1111 (the guy that made the UI that most people used) being from there made it an important place to hang out to learn things and get news before anywhere else.
Ultimately, though, its extremely lax moderation killed the momentum. In actuality it's a board for people banned everywhere else.
It's fair to hate LLMs, but without an AI board /g/ is the only place for them.

AI Dungeon was a website with its own primitive (by today's standards) AI model focused on roleplaying dungeon exploration. However, it being the internet people started using it as a masturbation aid or had it say no-no words and the creator (a somewhat religious guy, you may notice a theme with recent news) overreacted with extreme moderation and paranoia and it died. Recognizing what he did years later, he released the model online for free to be downloaded by anyone without limits: https://huggingface.co/LatitudeGames/Wayfarer-12B

This is something that actually happened during the proxy era where a proxy AI service would get started on /aicg/ and other posters (Spitefags) would link it to other places like discord, xitter, Indian social media, etc. to drain the proxy's key as fast as possible. There's also places like the sharty which seems to make sure any form of group on 4chan gets stamped out.

>what happened?
AI dungeon was one of the first ways people could access GPT-2 and GPT-3, and they had a special agreement with OpenAI that allowed uncensored use. Naturally it was a hotspot for sex roleplay, virtual girlfriend stuff, you name it.
Then they rolled out the most draconian and poorly thought out censorship seen in AI at the time, and it imploded overnight. Pair with leaks including an actual outsourced content mod leaking discussions in the thread, it was over like never seen before.
The implosion of AI dungeon directly lead to anons creating NovelAI as a competitor, which would later go on to add image generation - and get hacked, leaking their model to the world.
NovelAI was universally seen as a good force at first, but that eventually fell apart. Sad how things turned out.

that's only true if you assume transformers are the end of the line. maybe some people here don't know about this so i'll give a short explanation.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transformer_(deep_learning_architecture)
chatgpt gemini deepseek and all the other big llms are all based upon the transformer architecture. in fact that's what the gpt in chatgpt stands for. generative pretrained transformer. this means fundamentally they all are inherently restricted by the same constraints and limitations of the transformer architecture. the most famous limitation that some of you probably know is context. after training there's a very limited amount of additional information that the model is able to utilize at once. that's why language models "forget" things if you "talk" to them too long and why it can't "see" all the code in all the files of programming projects at once.
