I am a male clinically diagnosed with BPD which I see a therapist for regularly and I have never in my life had the urge to desire to cut myself a single time. I have only considered suicide to end it all and would not do it in some half assed away but with 100% guaranteed success like shot gunning myself or jumping off a 100+ foot building . However I have no clear desire to do this as I can only live once so might as well keep trying at life since I will die anyway. If I acquire some terminal disease I will probably kill myself instead of deal with the pain though preferably assisted suicide

Anyway why do people cut themselves? I have been trying to read some psychology papers on this but thought you guys could give some insight. Psychology is political so this is on topic
