we have a similar tradition in my family
>younger sister calls me random call late a night
>gives me a long arse story about how she and her boyfriend spent all their money on vidya and one piece merch and now can't pay some bill
>I then initiate the ritual of lecturing them both about how they have shit tastes in anime and are just shounenshitters that got into anime and manga became socially acceptable
>lecture them about how negima sensei, GTO, saishuu heiki kanojo, baccano, koi kaze, kodomo no jikan, welcome to the nhk, airantou, lamune, chobits and azumanga shit all of the mainstream modern shit they like to watch
>after about hour of proving my patrician tastes I then forget why I'm mad and just send them the money plus a little extra
the family tradition happens about every month or so.
