If you wish to walk in order to lose fat, you need to walk at a pace that keeps you in Zone 2 (about 70% of your max heart rate), I can't really tell if 108bpm is Zone 2 for you without knowing additional info, but you're most likely walking at a slower pace, try walking a bit faster. The body also adapts after a while and it's not so taxing on your system so you need to pick up the pace in order to get to a good heart rate.

Never buy walking shoes without GoreTex! It can get a bit pricey to buy new decent quality shoes all the time, especially if you walk a lot (and you're a big guy so they go even faster). I chew through a pair of walking shoes in 3-4 months, but I push them until I get to the 6 month mark. I bought a pair of Salomon with GoreTex a couple of months ago, they didn't stand the test of time since the fabric tore after a month (but to he fair, I abused them a bit, 500km in a month in rougher terrain).
Protip: I bet you also have wider feet like me, when you buy shoes next time, make sure they have an extra wide toe box. I took my old shoes and I made a mental note of everything that wasn't quite right with them. Then I open Meta or ChatGPT, write down all my stats, how much I walk and in what terrain, I write that I need sturdy shoes with wide toe boxes and GoreTex etc. Then I ask for shoe recommendations that suit my needs (give as much detailed info and feedback as possible, use it to further narrow down what you're looking for, you will get surprisingly good recommendations).
Second protip: Don't sleep on the socks, decent socks are a game changer if you walk a lot. Make sure to buy hiking socks. I don't even spend too much, I just buy the mid-range stuff from Decathlon. Two pairs cost like 18 EUR and I had zero blisters since I started wearing them and they also last much longer. Normal socks last me a month or two before I have to buy new ones.

This is a great choice, but they can be a bit pricier. Good Merino wool hiking socks have two layers of fabric on parts where the foot presses against the shoe (heel, toes etc) this prevents rubbing which causes blisters. Blisters are a bitch if you walk a lot, it's best to prevent them. If you get them, picrel is your friend. You get instant pain relief and you can keep walking without problems. They also have some shit in them that makes blisters heal faster. If you have new shoes, it's always a good idea to pre-tape your problem areas on your foot.

i was a mover in college.. and usually with 2 other guys, we would carry north of 8000 pounds of weight and id clock, on some of the worst days, 24k steps. which i think was about 12 miles..

so 2-3000 pounds for 12 miles.
another interesting thing i learned is how widespread and blatant getting high (just on pot) was for all movers.. i mean they would be doing shatter WHILE driving the truck.. we rolled up along a competing moving company and we tossed them a couple joints through the window at a red light. i hadn't smoked in years when i got there and wound up smoking non-stop every day until i moved on.

a nice thing about smoking while exerting yourself heavily is that the high is always crystal clear.. even if you smoke indica it is a clean high.. you just burn all the anxiety and heavy feeling right out of you..
that was a hard fucking job. i thought i was going to die my first day... i really thought i wouldn't be able to make it.. but it became fun to carry the most after a month. tbf everyone else was in it for the long haul and liked to stretch their hours.. fucking hour stretching 12 hour long days.. alot of 70hr weeks too.. psychos, but i don't blame them for going easy.

I use a step counter on my phone, it's called Pedometer (hehe), I recommend this to him last year and he used it for a while, but it's nice to have a dedicated step counter because it gives you additional info like bpm. I can ballpark my bpm, you get a feeling for these things if you walk regularly, so I don't really need it.
