it's a good question, i don't know honestly
probably diet could make it better or worse, but if it were a strong cause for schizophrenia, that would probably be known by now?
i don't know
i know terry davis stayed up for 48 hours & slept for 16 hours, that was his sleep schedule
he also drank several 2 litre diet pepsis throughout the day
probably made his shit worse if you ask me

schizophrenia is caused by a physical brain damage/dysfunction developed in adolescence or even in the womb.
it is largely related to the prefrontal cortex where the logic processing happens (higher order of thinking - "conscious thoughts").
Usually it is mostly about too many dopamine receptors and dopamine sensitivity - more dopamine means more "hallucinations", hence some of the medicine are dopamine blockers.

it can be developed with a genetic predisposition but it is never just inherited.
you need to help it develop, and usually it would be either viral infections in the mothers womb, maybe some inflammations, chronic stress in adolescence (traumas and such).
it is not one disease but a spectrum of just how messed up your brain is in particular ways. many people are only given a diagnosis of a schizotypical personality disorder - but it is essentially the same thing, just less intense where you don't hear voices or see things.
seeing or hearing happens by that dopamine stimulation, it is like involuntary and very realistic imagining things - imagine an apple in front of you. now imagine that your brain can do this on its own, more realistically, at any time and without your permission.
what also fails in a schizophrenic brain, is the connection between internal neural activity and recognizing it as own. imagining happens automatically, and the prefrontal cortex can't tell the source - it feels completely external.

It is, but a lot of the time it never manifests, my psychologist at the VA told me my ptsd and tbi caused my schizophrenia to surface, so be careful with anything that alters or injures your brain if anyone in your family has schizophrenia
