Former professor here.
My advice is to just show up, and choose a major that isn't a joke.
Go to community college for the first two years or at least dual enroll to get your generals out of the way.
99% of professors at R1s don't want to teach. If you are polite, do your work, ask for help when you need it, and actually show up to office hours, you won't fail out

Don't do compsci. Stick with employable shit (no arts degrees, also no physics either unless you're very smart and want to get into academia). Philosophy, poli sci, and crim are decent picks for law school, public policy, things along those lines. Depending on your area, maybe check out the most optimal degrees for urban planning if you're clueless. Join clubs, college is the easiest and best time to make friends, even lifelong ones. Don't be too asocial, talk to women. Get involved at your college. also if you want to eventually do grad school, don't go abroad if its not an internationally well known school.

Go to class.

Graduate in *something*.

A degree in *something* is better than no degree.

Do your homework.

Keep your syllabus.

Don't get some chick pregnant.

Your core curriculum courses (Chemistry 101, Biology 101, English 101, Econ 101), will take up most of your time. Try to take 2 each semester.

Balance with 2 or so more courses in the general direction that you think you want to do.

And then maybe one "fun" course or elective.

That should give you (4+4)+(3+3)+3 about 17 credit hours right there.

Don't go over 18 credit hours if you are working. You WILL burn out.

Another tip:

Keep your old papers. Even if you got an "F" on them.

Re-use your old papers. Add new ideas and sources.

By the time I graduated, I had an undergraduate senior thesis that took very little work because I had rehashed and retranslated my own work between so many classes.

Don't fixate. If you study engineering, don't adopt a mindset of "I'm going to study engineering, graduate engineering, get an engineering job and be an engineer". truly, network. And I don't mean fratting (though this is a valid form if you're in the business school). I mean presenting yourself well on linkedin, then dm-ing people asking for calls. anyone >25 in your domain of interest is always interested in having some bright eyed kid ask them about how they did it or see the world doing it in the future (seriously, be willing to be curious and ask dumb questions for the purpose of asking smarter questions later).

If you dont come from a lot of money or dont have great insurance, dont be a pussyfoot about going to your on campus doc.

this includes going to the GYM and going to one of the therapists on campus (free because of your being a student vast majority of the time). Seriously, if your on pol pre college, it would probably do you some good.

Yeah beyond that, get good grades but truly try and learn the subjects, get comfy with but not dependent on ai, lift, have sex. You can do it anon.

Half of your time should be spent in campus clubs, whether they be academic or recreational it doesn't matter.

Don't be an autistic retard and sperg on girls; there are plenty of them so don't feel bad getting rejected. You may even find a wife. Being a part of those clubs will build more character and make women admire you more.

Get a huge wall calendar that shows all months and days and use that to write important dates on.

They don't want to pay for your future.
They're trying to shame you into "paying your way" through life.

Either you go to college, or you don't. Life isn't going to be easier for you either way, but only one way will open up more options. When you look back on your life you will only look back at the chance to go to college with regret. That being said you will also hate everything else about "your" life either way.

Don't sweat it if you can't get a girl. Accept that you are basically level 1 with 0 XP. The guys who are years ahead of you are more likely to be successful in that regard. Don't take it personally.

By all means, go out and have some beers but don't expect anything and use the events to make friends, people you will enjoy spending time with.

It will only be in year 2-3 and beyond that after some making a fool of yourself during this time you'll start to get it and then you should try to get with a girl that's in her first year like you.

Still no luck close to graduation? Don't sweat that either. If you get yourself established at your job and it's a good one you can meet women via the company. Just make sure they're in a different dept than you.

Anyway the reason I mention this is like here anyway, like half the people meet their spouses via college.

I almost had a career doing this, but I listened to my mother like a retard. I was only 19 but I was doing work study + full time courses + was VP, and later P of student council
I was actually offered a job on campus before I even had my degree (CoSci, the job offer was for admin) but my mother convinced me to turn it down and get a job in STEM. I am now a miserable wagie working in telecomms for less than I would be if I just took the full time job offer with benefits to work in admin at the college back then. My mother is a quadruple college dropout and made her career in a field completely unrelated to the degree she wound up getting, by the way.
