I am an alcoholic who has periods of sobriety in between. I've drank for decades. Sometimes I'll drink a litre of hard spirit a day for several days before suddenly stopping. Recently I woke up in the middle of the night and the entire right side of my body was numb. I jumped out of bed in a panic. I was certain that I'd had a stroke and I'd never get that feeling back. After a few minutes the feeling came back, and I went back to bed. This is just one of the numerous evil shit that you'll encounter as an alcoholic.

I have a few bottles of decent liquor, but I rarely drink and also don't hold alcohol dear. Really wouldn't make a difference to me if all alcohol instantly vanished other than losing an ingredient for cooking (mostly cheap wine from Aldis).

Recently had an incident after a hard night of drinking that made me realize I have a toxic relationship with booze, and that I'm swearing off the liquor now. Only going to drink beer when I'm back home at the pub I frequent, mostly just to socialize. Even now as I'm sipping a glass of rum right now, I don't really even want to finish it.

I think I'm only saving spirits for holidays and special occasions now. I can't stand this shit anymore. My body can't keep up.
