some people have successful careers while living well in their teen years, and some NEETs never had much social place in the world

The NEET has a place to live they don't own the house. If they did they'd lose it to property taxes since no job and SSI isn't enough to pay the taxes on a quarter million dollar property.
Your statement of "doesn't have his name on it" is the defining factor of your argument. They're eternal renters at best and fully embody you will own nothing and be happy. Meanwhile people with jobs can have anything they can afford. Own it not rent it or merely possess it. When the NEET's caretakers or parents die their life ends as they realize they can't live a happy life without another person footing the bill.
