Im not really scraping the site im writing this for. They are kind enough to dump their database every day so you can do all your searches locally.
But y know, the site with the fluffy animals.

and its more about practice and not getting banned like on most sites than the actual content.

usually not getting banned only requires that you do not make requests as fast as possible, though a proper site should return a "too many requests" error (429) to let you know that you should slow down instead of immediately banning you

I know that but sites are starting to demand API keys now and they ban you even if you are slow since its still against TOS.
The site owners dumping the db is a very smart move i think. You only need to hit the sites API a few times to get what you need and the rest is just media downloads and done locally on the db you downloaded. Faster for everybody involved.
Also fucking around with a local instance btw.

ah i worded it bad. They dump all their db's but no images. If you want them you still need to download them but not using the API for this usecase is still easier on the server. The db dump with all the tags and posts is ~5gb. They update it daily.
