Did you forget that the universe is epxanding into nothingness? How does that make sense? How can it expand into nothingness? What is nothing? Something can't be nothing, and nothing doesn't exist. How can the universe expand in nothing? It doesn't make sense.

I don't think the people who make statements like that know what they're talking about. even scientific models are just our best understanding of someone at a point in time and can turn out to be very wrong. so the best thing I can say is that we don't know if the universe is expanding into "nothingness" but what we can say is that the distance between the "center of the universe" (another concept fraught with uncertainty) and the "edge" that we can observe is increasing over time.

>and the "edge" that we can observe is increasing over time.

Since when can we see the edge of the universe? What the fuck are you talking about?

maybe I should have phrased it differently - I meant whatever is at the furthest distance we can observe. all we can say is that things are getting further apart. which is not a very interesting statement. so when you break it down the whole "universe is expanding" statement to the facts we can be sure about, it's actually not that interesting to talk about

The emergence of AI has sparked a renaissance of sorts in the fields of philosophy and psychology.
What do you think the future of AI technologies holds? Are we doomed to extinction or will we ascend to new realms of thought? What about possible afflictions we may experience along the way? Do you think there could be psychological side effects to AI? What about social consequences?
Get the fuck out of here with this there's nothing to talk about of worth nonsense. You're asking pigs why birds fly.

I think there have already been people who have ascended to higher states of consciousness and they did it through spiritual practice and meditation. to us plebs who only live in this material world through our senses, AI does look interesting but to the spiritually enlightened yogis who have achieved a state of self realization and god union, it is just yet another toy to play with

i will leave here a talk i had with melonade from awhile ago, and say again, you should all check out the youtube channel "sentdex" if you're interested in the technology
he covers basic neural networks, RNNs, computer vision, and all the underlying stuff required to understand modern LLMs
but the good part is his tutorials were made during like 2021 and earlier, before any of the consumer LLM companies took off
his videos are almost like cooking videos, and it gives you a completely new perspective once you understand these things & the magic is gone
they're really not that complicated
there is some math voodoo involved in backpropagation (which is vital), but the rest can be understood easily with highschool level math
his book "neural networks from scratch" is good, as well
https://archived.moe/bant/thread/23119271/#23119484

i'll also leave here a US government report on the russian intelligence software "meliorator", which ran on twitter and other platforms around 2022
https://www.ic3.gov/CSA/2024/240709.pdf

i think LLMs are mostly a parlor trick, and a way to make lots of money, and a way to drive GPU prices
but neural networks themselves are useful in their place, and anything interesting is going to come from chaining these simple technologies together in ingenious ways
that meliorator software is a good example of what i'm talking about, whether or not it's "le scary russia" or whatever

goodnight

neural networks are old. they were theorized hundreds of years ago and a lot of the breakthroughs in the field came about in the 50s and 60s. we just didn't have the compute power or the data to make use of them. this is further proof that there is nothing to talk about

grrr
i dunno man, as they get easier & easier to use, it gets easier & easier to experiment and fuck around
the way a technology is used/accessed greatly affects the way we think about it, which could itself influence which breakthroughs are made or not made
additionally, as they get easier to use, they become more versatile, which opens up the idea of chaining them together with each other & other technologies
