Laptop in bathroom
I was playing Pokemon while in the tub now my screen has water damage and double screening. It's been two days.. will it fix with time? It didn't even get directly wet

you can replace the screen, but it might be a pain in the ass

maybe next time instead of playing games while you're in the bath like a fucking toddler you'll just wait until you get out

well normally it would, but if there's water trapped between the plastic and the LCD panel, it might stay there
you could try opening it up & cleaning the water if it doesn't evaporate in 24 hours or so
if that doesn't fix it, the damage might be permanent
Anonymous (ID: mVEkzzd3) United States No.23275747 [Report] >>23275763
you can normally take the plastic shell off the display, and then take the clear plastic panel off
but alot of the time you have to take apart the entire laptop in order to disconnect the display & get access

look up some disassembly videos for your laptop model, maybe

>I can sauder like a monkey on nzt I might be able to sauder and I'm okay at taking stuff apart like a methhead
ah, you can probably do it then :D
just make sure you have all the tools, keep track of screws, be careful not to tear/rip ribbon cables, and make sure you can do the steps in reverse order
>How long would you wait before defaulting to this?
personally i would do it immediately, just in case the water does permanent damage, even if it might evaporate on its own
displays are annoying & fragile

That looks like a sturdy guy mine was a Chromebook which I feel they're made more delicate every year with the same amount of features and slightly more ram. My old Chromebook they bricked works in the tub but the new one doesn't.

Okay thank you. Is a double screen each time I turn it on a day in most likely permeant damage?

i'm not sure what you're trying to do, or what the problem is
you can always rip the battery out, but it might break the thing
have you tried holding the power button for like, 30 seconds straight? (not exaggerating, you gotta hold it for a long time)
normally the power button should communicate with the motherboard even if the keyboard doesn't seem to work

i'm not sure
someone might know, but i wouldn't be able to tell from the way the display is fucked up, whether the problem is permanent or not

Don't take baths.
Use a 10m< waterproof phone where water might be an issue. If on a boat or where it might be dropped in water cover its's sides and back with a case with a built in floatation device, like a pocket of air.

If you really need to do stuff in a bathtub all the time like that nigga from the French Revolution, you should get an actual waterproof laptop.

Maybe take it apart and wash the water off with alcohol or that spray for cleaning circuit boards. Pls consult someone who knows what they are doing better than me first though as I'm not the best at repairing shit

you can do this, and i've done it to save completely drenched desktop motherboards
Anonymous (ID: mVEkzzd3) United States No.23276163 [Report] >>23276185
it's actually fine for most electronics to get wet, but if you do that while there's current running through them, the metal corrodes extremely quickly
this blue shit usualy
if you shut them off early, you can clean the corossion with distilled water & baking soda, then alcohol, then wait for it to evaporate for 48 hours to a week
Anonymous (ID: mVEkzzd3) United States No.23276171 [Report]
displays are more fragile though, from what i understand

I defo don't have any of that so I think I'll hopefully be okay. Since it's just the screen on the one with humidy damage should I just take as part the screen clean it and wait a few days and hope it's fixed? I've heard mixed things on it. Sorry if I'm repeating myself man.

Yeah just make sure you use ANHYDROUS alcohol.
Dont pour vodka or whatever on it as that's like 60% water you can dry everclear with dehydrated epsom salts but dont buy both at the same store because it'll look like you are making meth.

if you can, yeah
since you'll probably have to take apart the whole thing to get access to the display (the water is sandwiched between the plastic and the display, probably), you may as well check the motherboard for any corrosion, just in case
it would suck to fix the display, but then the computer mysteriously dies 3 days later from corrosion

It should be over 95% at minimum

Bruh, you can just use regular baking soda and vinegar (like the kind you'd use to make pancakes) if you can't get your hands on isopropyl alcohol.
Anonymous (ID: OZeSHPMt) United Kingdom No.23279465 [Report]

That is for cleaning off corrosion not drying.
If they put basic or acidic chemicals on a wet circuit board it'll just speed up corrrosion
