Not cashiers, but I grew super attached to a streamer girl who was kind to me at a time when I was getting 0 social interaction. I knew she’s an actress and that’s her job, but still got attached to her. I had to cut off all contact with her because I was paying her $1000+ a month. No. Years ago there was this girl I worked with who was relentlessly nice to me. it didn't make sense.
No matter how many times I'd push her away she just kept trying with me and was so warm and comfortable to be around.
She became the highlight of my shitty day.
Eventually I learned that she thought I was cute and had some weird sympathetic attachment to me but simultaneously couldn't stand me as a person, thought I was a bland piece of shit but felt guilty about it and didn't want to let it show. That was such a profound lesson.

So knowing that THAT was the closest a girl got to liking me in my post mid-twenties life and remembering that everytime a girl smiles at me has made it very easy to just dismiss it.
I don't even see people as opportunities any more I see them as obstacles living their own separate lives that I need to avoid.
