I love Factorio but I don't play it (or any game really) as intended. I use the editor to generate a flat map and place resources in abundance, then build the entire factory, belts, wiring, everything. I load the scenario and watch it operate until I notice a missing wire or belt, a manufacturer without blueprint set, or other issues, then reload into the editor and correct the issue. Repeat until the rocket launches without doing anything but researching the tech.

For a fun, 3D alternative to Factorio, I recommend Satisfactory.
