You need basic understanding of arabic tbf to get into it, reading the sahihs and quran isnt enough and both are written in different forms of arabic.

200 years is a stretch but past what bukhari and ibn hanbal and مسلم standarized there's other ways to gauge how correct a hadith is not just the sahih's whims. Fundamentally it's impossible for everyone to agree on one islamic scripture or text unless it's the quran. An إجماع (unanimous ruling about veracity) is impossible fundamentally if it's not Quran, let alone a hadith that's موضوع like the zutt one in hand

Quran is like this in general. Allah is telling you what you are allowed to do and what you're not allowed to do without explaining why. You have to look up what muhammad has to say about it
For example Quran says you need one male witness or two female witnesses in court. It makes you think, right? What does gender have to do with credibility? You look up the related hadith to understand Allah's wisdom and Muhammad explains it very clearly. Women are less intelligent than men so you need two instead of one
