I was unemployed for 5 months and I used to love playing video games. Now I've been working they don't excite me anymore and I get bored with them after 30 mins. Why is this?

hmm, maybe the work is too exhausting?
or maybe not the work itself, but the schedule or something else?

it might be a good thing, maybe you're getting enough stimulation from your touch grass life that you aren't as interested in games
i guess it depends on whether you feel satisfied or depressed, whether you just feel indifferent about games, etc

less time means you tend to min-max playing games to save it. this turns your fun experience which you would normally go through at your own pace into something you just 'go through'

But even on my days off I don't play them for very long.

No I'm not depressed. I'm mostly liking my new job. I just have less attachment to the story and the gameplay isn't very stimulating anymore.

video games are the cheapesr long haul hobby you can have. You drop a couple thousand on a mid range gaming computer and are set for the 10 years at least with most video games costing $20-$80 and with most people buying at least one - two new games a month.
This is completely discounting sales like steam summer sale or winter sale.
for people that work a job. It's the cheapest hobby. there is no risk of injury and no special insurance needed like in a hobby like martial arts all you need to worry about hobby wise is your electric and internet bill and cleaning your pc every now and then. Many people dont realize how cheap and easy gaming is to take up as a hobby. Even the learning curve is tiny in comparison to IRL hobbies like electronics, martial arts, fishing, hunting, camping, bushcraft, arts and crafts and even stuff like wood working which falls into arts and crafts

and this is also discounting some people play the same video game everyday for decades logging 10,000+ hours in some

hmm
it might be a good thing then, if your job and life are satisfying/stimulating enough on their own
i'm not sure though

using martial arts as an example of a higher learning curve
most schools show you a move once or twice. You drill it for 10 minutes and then are expected ti execute it in a live sparring session. If you cant oh well and if you forget, oh well.
You'll be shown the move again in either a few months or next year. Meanwhile most games teach you to play them AS you play them

you either need to get a new hobby or play video games that are more difficult to learn

I've got other hobbies and I'm still enjoying those hobbies, but not video games

is that really the way most martial arts schools teach?
that is fucked, what a shame

Yeah it's very heiarchical and dependent in the instructor. Some instructors will ask the students if there is anythinv specific they wanna go over if they have no idea what to teach that day. Ive been taught by all sorts(not in a bad way but in the sense that i travel a lot so have dropped in a ton)
Some instructors will brush you off and tell you to look it up. Some instructors will pair you off with someone who knows the move, some instructors will gladly yo over it again real quick to get on with class and some instructors will ask you to pay better attention as going over somethjng from a week ago ir yesterday will cut into class time that could be used to learn other moves or go over somethjng a higher ranking student wants to learn. And they'll especially go over it if that is a student that competes and even moreso if that student competes and wins

when your IRL life is more rewarding escapism becomes less appealing. If you are enjoying having a job don't worry about not enjoying video games, look for other things to fill your time like socializing or sports

I don't like socialising much. I went to a meetup group last weekend and I hate noisy pub environments full of normies. I mostly do photography and go to the gym in my free time
