It's possible to use democracy to vote for policies that eliminate democracy and it's possible to abuse free speech protections to promote worldviews that would eliminate free speech. There aren't good guard rails on things like this at all.

but i don't think there really CAN be "good guard rails" without compromising the principle of free speech
you have to have faith that people will value the principle of free speech enough that they won't advocate things which get rid of it, which is absolutely possible
