For God so loved the world
I believe God's wisdom is taught through His word, through Jesus Christ; who was The Word made flesh (John 1:14)

When the Pharisees rejected Christ - because they were waiting for a leader according to their own understanding, and not trusting entirely in God to provide one - they inadvertently missed and subsequently rejected God almighty.

The lesson being: If you are waiting to accept Jesus, and do not believe He exists and existed before you, having died for our sins, raised on the third day by the Father, and is alive today, ever-present through the Holy Spirit, then you are in grave danger of rejecting Him, just as the Pharisees rejected Him, to their shame, when he returns to judge the living and the dead. Jesus will return, do not make the same mistake as the Pharisees, nor be without the Holy Spirit when He does.

Get right with God today /pol/, accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour here and now, in this thread! God bless those that do. amen.

By “you” Jesus meant the Samaritans (plural “you” in Gr.). They worshipped a God whom they did not really know. The reason for this was their rejection of most of His revelation in the Old Testament. Moreover the Samaritans had added pagan concepts to their faith that had come from their Gentile forefathers. If the woman truly believed that Jesus was a prophet, as she claimed, she would have had to accept His statement. There was more and truer information about God that she and her fellow Samaritans needed to learn than they presently knew. Jesus was providing that correction and that new revelation.

In contrast, the Jews accepted all of God’s revelation in the Old Testament and therefore knew the God whom they worshipped. Additionally they were the people through whom that revelation had come. Jesus here summarized all Old Testament revelation as being essentially soteriological. God intended His revelation to result in salvation for humankind (cf. 3:17). In that sense salvation had come through the Jews (cf. Rom. 3:2; 9:4-5). Salvation also came from the Jews in that Messiah came from Judah’s tribe (Gen. 49:10) whereas the Samaritans traced their ancestry through Joseph.[192]

Jesus did not take sides on the question of the place of worship, but He did clarify the proper basis of authority as being the whole Old Testament.

4:22 Ye worship you know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. (Psa 147:19; Isa 2:3, 14:1, 56:6-8; Eze 47:22-23; Zec 2:10-11, 8:23; Rom 2:20, 3:2, 9:4; Rev 21:12, 21:24)

>You worship that which you do not know. We worship that which we know, because salvation is from among the Judaeans.

The original 1611 version of the KJV reads: “But salvation cometh out of Judaea.”

2Kings 17:29 Howbeit every nation made gods of their own, and put them in the houses of the high places which the Samaritans had made, every nation in their cities wherein they dwelt.

They worshiped dumb gods, myths.

Christ was a Judahite from the tribe of Judah. The remnant that returned was responsible for preserving the law and bringing in the Messiah.

Isaiah 2:3 And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

The Israelites of Judaea. The House of Judah received the gospel first (Acts 13:46).

No glory to be reached
No more thy slavery

Spawn terror
Smash thy will
Ye pale dominion fades away
My will dominates

And watch my star arise
Burning up the earth
Sun - the eye of gods
Threw into the space
Watch ye moon eclipse
Falling from thy grace
Watch all nations cry
All feared ov his name
Praise the flame!
Watch the Angels falling from the Sky!

hell no, there is not such thing as "colective responsibility" esp not in contects of "your ancestor sinned, so you are personally guilty"
plus Jesus never really died, so he also never resurected. jesus is/was aparently a god, and you cant kill one of those by making some holes in their body.

ancestral guilt was seen in pre-christian societies too
the greco-romans had "miasma," the house of atreus (agamemnon, orestes) is a famous example where they were plagued by murder incest and revenge across generation.
the neoplatonist philosopher proclus defended this idea as part of ancient greek theology, arguing that cities and families could suffer inherited adversity due to ancestral faults.
romans believed in familial fate and divine retribution. if a family offended the gods the consequences could extend to descendents.
that was one of the main points of pietas (duty to gods and ancestors)
failure to honor it could bring misfortune not just to themselves but their lineage.
same with norse tradition.

What you're witnessing is man's attempt to be god - we can not do it, it is a lie that we can, and the continual attempt and increasing amount of sin through greed and lust, lies and deceit only brings more misery, despair and eventually death - "the wages of sin is death" (Romans 6:23)

Jesus foretold all; that this would come to pass - for good reason - before His glorious return. Read scripture, please, repent anon and turn to Christ.

debates on abortion, marriage, education and civil rights necessitate religious arguments.
many political ideologies are inseparable from religious identity

Rationalize raping little baby girls after having slaughtered their parents and infant baby brothers in front of them.

Bonus points for explaining why Moses did it to them after Medianites had given him shelter and treated him with nothing but kindness during his exile where he even married a daughter of a Medianite priest.

That's cool and all but I really don't care. I have my own experience and ancient context and language doesn't help me understand any better. It seems pretty fitting though that the gospel of Thomas was hidden for so long. I've found myself wondering lately why would that be? For someone like me it's a pretty clear instruction manual. If you think mysticism is evil or whatever it only shows a lack of understanding. Genesis 6:5 The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time. 6 The Lord regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled. 7 So the Lord said, “I will wipe from the face of the earth the human race I have created—and with them the animals, the birds and the creatures that move along the ground—for I regret that I have made them.”
