I'm a newly qualified doctor and I think the weird thing for me is how I perceive it.

When I was very young I could never have imagined myself being capable of something like this but now it just seems completely mediocre and normal. When I was a bit older it seemed possible and a good thing to aim for and something to be proud of.

This sounds bad but now crypto has taken off and I'm richer than the vast majority of doctors in their fifties despite being in my twenties I kind of feel like it's beneath me and I should have an even better job. Like why the sneed am I getting bossed around by someone far poorer than me despite being far older and I'm thinking of packing it in.

I do like some aspects of it though like talking to patients and the business side once you run own practise so sticking with it plus very easy to go part time in my country.

It's entirely unit, branch, and rank dependent. I'm a line infantry officer, so I'm inundated with bullshit to do between drills, and I'm only a PL. If you're an Company XO or Company CO you essentially have a full-time job that only pays for 2-4 days mo.

For officers you definitely have to move around because you can't just stay at one assisgment or command forever. Enlisted guys can pretty much never leave their units if they choose, but it means promotions will be limited if they don't wanna move for a slot.

It's also only once a month so it doesn't really matter how far you unit is.

Been there. My career fell off and I got super depressed with substance abuse issues in my late 20's. Spent the first half of my 30's working BS jobs. At 35 I was a cook on food truck / catering company. Was 36 when I finally got back to a decent career sounding job. In the UK med school is normally 5 years and the best financial choice is GP/family med. Most other degrees are 3 years (arts) or 4 years (sciences) so most the time it's about 1.5 years longer.

GP training is 5 years and you get paid about £45k first year to £65k last year, then £100k-£150k afterwards. In the UK where wages are absolute shite this is very high and while it's hard it isn't as competitive as FAANG, magic circle law or IB. The other key advantages are:

Prestige, it's the most respected and elite job.
Massive amount of geographical flexibility, both in UK and moving abroad
Very easy to go part time and hours are excellent vs most other top tier careers
Probably the most interesting top tier job. Certainly better than IB and FAANG.

It's not uncommon for people to be doing it as a hobby, you certainly can't say that about the other top tier jobs.

In USA it's a much better deal. Pay is so high it is utterly insane and it's so easy to pay the debt off there but the process is more difficult getting there.
