It comes down to lawyers, both before and after the divorce, but that's still transactional. You essentially attempt to structure things in a way that anything of value isn't connected to you personally (usually using trusts/businesses entities) but even then a judge can fuck you up. If kids are involved, doubly so.

You have to treat marriage like a potentially hostile interaction from the get go, which defeats any "purpose" of the marriage. It's absolutely ruining birth rates and society as a whole in the jolly old US of A, but I'm just stating the facts. I don't make the rules.

The only way to fix it would be for a divorce laws to codify "if it's in your name, you keep, and if it's in both of your names, you split 50/50, and only for items like cars/houses/etc." and be done with it. Payments only in the case of child support, if there are no kids, no payment.

Governments can easily increase birth rates overnight by repealing alimony & child support and providing welfare programs for divorced women and their children instead but they're too busy embezzling all that money elsewhere. Without child support or alimony concerns, men and women would be indiscriminately fucking each other and popping out babies left and right.
