when I was younger I was programmed to believe it.
then after only 5 years of working it became clear businesses were not meritocracies. in fact most of the economy is just fraud or subsidized directly/indirectly by the government.
later I had kids. my first born consistently tests 99.99 percentile IQ and whatever standardized tests. but private school interviews him. all of a sudden the schools say "he's not ready".
