Yes, less than that of crypto. Do you realize that? The whole banking system in the world uses LESS energy than bitcoin, despite serving like 10000x as many people. That's how wasteful bitcoin is.
But even aside from that, banks and crypto are not even remotely comparable. If bitcoin were to expand to cover all the services and users of banks, it would gain the energy usage of banks ON TOP OF the already gargantuan energy usage from mining.

Bitcoin will not be the future of finance or payments, but it does fill a niche in international finance. It is a store of wealth that can be carried in your pocket (digital gold). This means it is useful for families and wealthy people especially in unstable countries or sanctioned countries to hold in case everything else gets confiscated or stolen. You can't carry 100 pounds of gold or 50 pounds of cash with you on an airplane, but you can carry a flash drive. It makes sense if you care about your long term family wealth to have some amount of it in Bitcoin, probably not all that much, but if all index funds carried as much Bitcoin as gold, then that would be a 10x increase in market cap.
