What does gold do that bitcoin doesn't?

Late into night, he sat hunched over his ever-growing hoard of gold and silver, each coin and ingot gleaming like a promise of immortality. His skin, once ruddy and vibrant, had turned ashen and papery, veins standing out like dark tributaries beneath a dead riverbed. He scarcely ate or slept, preferring instead to stroke the cold surfaces of his treasure, listening to the hollow clink of metal as if it were a lullaby. The vault around him filled with dust and the sour stench of decay, yet he could not tear his bloodshot eyes from the glint of his fortune. In the flickering lantern light, the shadows of his wealth seemed to breathe, crawling along the walls with hungry intent.

Days blurred into a feverish routine of counting, polishing, and hoarding; his joints stiffened, his mind frayed, and his heart slowed to a stuttering throb. He whispered sweet promises to the goldβ€”vows of eternal companionship and adorationβ€”while the silver coins, engraved with ghostly faces, stared back at him with cold indifference. His fingers, blackened by neglect and the toxic sheen of metal, trembled whenever he tried to nourish himself. The weight of obsession pressed down on his chest like an iron vise, squeezing out whatever humanity remained. Yet even as his body withered, his eyes burned with a terrible devotion to the riches that would never save him.

One final night, a guttering lantern threw grotesque angles across the room as he collapsed onto piles of stolen splendor. He gasped for breath, the metallic tang in his mouth mingling with the coppery taste of blood. From the yawning closet at the room’s far end came a soft, rasping soundβ€”a gulp, a sniff, a promise. The door creaked open, and in stepped a goblin girl: eyes glinting emerald hunger, skin mottled like aged bronze, fingers tipped with obsidian claws. She surveyed his slack form and smiled, revealing rows of jagged teeth, before leaning in to feast on the only treasure left: his fragile, starving flesh...

Twas on a cold December day
I found myself upon the shore
The sea from whence I did crawl out
With clothes and breath but nothing more

To look across the endless waves
A decade since, and so unkind
To be so close and yet so far
From that which I had left behind

When lo behold! What scuttles so?
I see the shine beneath the blue
Then sideways through the breaking foam
The grandest crab I ever knew

Adorned with gold and silver how!
A crown atop his mighty shell
With chains and rings for all to see
And captivate under his spell

Oh crab most fine! I bow to thee,
Crustacean King so bright!
What Kingdom must you rule beneath
The depths untouched by light

The crab spoke thus, my fellow sir!
Please kneel not as I pass!
A king? Oh no, it is not so
In fact I am but middle class!

My land and home so far below
Is filled with things as these
From those on land with luck so poor
Who dare take to the seas

I come ashore but one a year
To pay my due respect
To sailors and their sunken ships
Whose treasures I collect

So take my boy, this sovereign bright
And dwell not on the memory
Of that which you have sorely lost
Which lies so deep beneath the sea.

He woke beneath a twilight sky that rippled with molten metal, the air thick with the scent of ozone and precious ore. At his feet lay a vast basin of liquid gold and silver, each wave arcing like molten silk. Curiosity propelled him forward, toes meeting the gleaming surface as if stepping into a dream spun from the sun and moon. A hush fell around him, broken only by the soft hiss of metal against skin. He inhaled deeply, tasting the warmth of creation itself.

With a powerful dive, he plunged into the molten sea. Golden ripples danced across his arms while silver currents wound around his legs, lifting him as effortlessly as feathers on a breeze. Every stroke sent showers of incandescent droplets into the dim air, painting the sky with fleeting constellations of light. In that weightless realm, time dissolved; seconds stretched into infinity, each heartbeat echoing like a chime within his chest. He felt unbound, every worry melting away like dross in the flow of pure possibility.

When he finally rose to the surface, dawn was breaking, and the metal waters cooled into gentle pools of dew and mist. He stepped out onto soft grass, droplets of gold and silver clinging to his skin like promises. The dreamscape faded behind him, but the afterglow lingered in his veinsβ€”a reminder that magic can be found in the alchemy of imagination. As his eyes fluttered open to the real world, he carried the molten sunrise in his heart, forever changed by the shimmering depths he’d once swum.

/pmg/ jokes about having a round made.
Someone posts a joke image.
/pmg/ responds favorably.
No-one knows how to do it.
One guy volunteers to learn how and do it.
[- Bayhorse is shilled and becomes a rugpull. -]
/pmg/ approves the round, all still skeptical.
Months go by, both FUD and support posts are prolific.
Crowdsourcing opens.
Price is high: a mint is hired, a die for a small run has to be sculpted, a die has to be made, shipping has to be estimated.
Some people reluctantly place an order, expecting the famous "rugpull".
Some people have faith and order a dozen or more.
Some people scoff and refuse to support.
Picture posted of the die. Wow - could be real.
Anon posts pictures of the incoming boxes of rounds and capsules.
Skeptics still angry and FUD.
People who ordered start getting shipping notices.
People who ordered start receiving rounds.
Mintanon loses money because underestimated costs.

Skeptics rue not having bought spares to sell, seeing a couple Apus go for over $1k each.

Got my hands on this Syracuse tetradrachm recently, and i'm having a hard time telling if it's legit or not. It was a good deal, but i'd rather send it back if i can't confirm with 90% certainty it's a real one (this coin is one of the most faked one).
The coin have been soldered in 4 differents points to become part of an old necklace, the edge have been heavily sanded and shaved to fit an approximatively round support, and the coin's surface is heavily worn down and got harshly cleaned over a long period of time.

What i can say from observation :
>couldn't see any seam line from casting (but it's maybe simply too sanded/shaved)
>coin definitely is in silver
>shape and volume feels right
>lightweight compared to a non damaged tetra from Syracuse (14g instead of 16.5/17g), but could match with all the wear and shaving
>details are matching the phi type (pretty unusual version, all fakes have seen online are of the much more commons NK or NI types)
>wear seems natural
>what remains of the cracks/folds in the beading looks OK, but it's hard to tell

what do you guys think? (newfags don't need to answer, i want pros).

Unless they look like pic rel, i don't think they are worth grading, personally i prefer to fondle them. But grading adds a layer of "security" if you aren't sure of what you are purchasing, so it's not rare for very low grade ones (like mine) to get sent to PCGS just to make potential buyers at ease.

It's probably too late to sell for a profit. The old-timers (relative to pmg's life) have probably already acquired the meme coins they wanted, and the newbies don't have the feels of the old days when making memecoins was an adventure. The later rounds lack the sense of novelty of the originals. Given they were priced fairly high - say $60 - it'll be a while before even spot makes selling them a profitable venture.
There were a few speculators who bought bunches. I think the hope was 4chan and pmg would become some cultural icon that everyone would want to get in on. Kek...

Danish anon here. I've been considering buying a little gold for some time now and finally looked into it. Apparently the difference in price between buying and selling gold bars and coins varies from about 6% for large bars/coins to fucking over 30% for small ones.
This means that if I buy 1g of gold the market price has to rise over 30% just to break even. All I've ever heard about gold is how great it is at preserving wealth. This seems like a retarded meme after finding out about this shit... Am I missing something here? Wtf is this shit?

This is just from a US perspective though, if you live in Europe this list will be different.
Since Foreign Gold is almost all .900 (Ducats and Sovs being higher purity), it should be relatively easy to unload compared to foreign Silver which comes in a variety of purities.
I suppose South African 1 and 2 Rand coins are probably pretty easy to unload as well since they're just miniature Krugs with the same weight and purity as Sovereigns, but i've never looked into them much.

It's only possible if in the eyes of the law you didn't acquire it as a form of speculation. This is the same for bitcoins, and the courts literally never accept that crypto was acquired as non-spegulation. You could. The problem is that the courts literally always rule that you bought the gold/crypto as an investment. Everyone who has tried to argue this in court has lost. What you don't seem to get here is that in tax cases we have reverse burden of evidence. The authorities dont have to prove that you bought it as speculation, you have to prove that you didn't, and the courts have such extreme requirements for evidence that no citizens ever win these cases. All law firms basically advice that no one should attempt to argue this case in court because it's pointless. The tax exemption for non-speculation is basically on paper only. No one ever wins these cases.

>Lmao, the government taxes silver and gold at a punitive rate since they are considered collectibles like beanie babies, so high you are guaranteed to lose if you hold long term.

>Pre-1965 silver coinage, which contains 90% silver and 10% copper, is subject to specific tax regulations. The IRS considers physical holdings in precious metals, including pre-1965 silver coins, as collectibles. When these coins are sold, the gains are subject to capital gains tax, which is up to 37%. This tax rate applies to the sale of precious metals, regardless of whether they are in the form of bullion coins, bullion bars, rare coinage, or ingots. The tax rate depends on your marginal tax rate.

If you're willing to put in some effort when buying and selling, you can do private sales, which usually just ignore premiums altogether. Good deal for buying and selling, but it definitely is a hassle. Best argument for buying physical is to be protected in case of hyperinflation, nationalization, fiat collapse, etc... along with potential for moonshot gains like with silver. If these things happen, premiums are irrelevant. So if you think none of that sounds likely to happen at all, you probably shouldn't buy any.

Yes, why would you sell when you can leverage it as collateral? You dont need to sell any gold or silver to make it make money for you. There are also institutions thay pay you 2-4% gold or silver on your metal holdings that they loan others.

If you were unvaccinated you could comprehend this.

Never going to sell, will trade and leverage it just like people do with stocks and real-estate. Gold is a tier 1 asset thanks to Basel regulations and if that's what the central banks use, then so will I

Zero shares available to short the SLV etf. I don't think I've ever seen this before.

When you see SLV borrow availability collapse to zero while the borrow rate rips (we’ve watched it jump from 0.68% last week to 1.82% today), it’s telling you shorts are scrambling. They’re facing rising margin requirements as price holds near highs and there’s simply no easy paper left to grab. Combine that with a near‑record net short on COMEX and it paints a very clear picture: The pressure is building in the release valve of the global system – silver. All of this is unfolding while the base layer (sovereign debt) itself wobbles β€” Japan’s 30‑year ripping toward record highs, the U.S. 30‑year back over 5%, and deep negative swap spreads showing stress in collateral plumbing.

This isn’t noise. It’s the foundation of a short squeeze forming in real time.

Investment of 10,000 sell it for 10,000,000 you owe 3.2 million tax even though you gained nothing, the $ went down, you lost 32% plus up to 13% in state taxes, a total loss of 45%

I've been making this point as well that the reason gold and silver are NEVER used as money is the spread. No one wants to lose 10% or in the case of goybucks 70% on every transaction.

They ask if you're making it by putting a little money outside the banking system into metals as a form of long-term savings which hedge against inflation in a system they control after murdering 60 million Christians during the Holodomor, what they did to the German people, infiltrating the US system and now genociding Palestinians.
He put them.into work camps and was clearly way to lenient.
So yes haha gold is nice.
Also I hope the world wakes up and we rid ourselves of you demonic vermin soon:)

Thinking of buying a 1/4oz leaf. I probably should've bought a 1oz leaf instead of a few other smaller coins but I like buying things I want even if it costs a bit more. Long term it wont matter anyway though it would be nice to have at least one bigger coin

/pmg/, I just realized that for the first time ever, the majority of my assets are Precious Metals.
Should I scale back my PM purchases to avoid putting all my eggs in one basket or just continue at my current pace of just buying as many coins as I want?

I like Lynette but this seems like a grift. I'm not sure how digital currency could be used as CBDC? They aren't necessarily the same thing, unless the US stablecoin is designed to be centralized and regulated by the Fed. Can anyone explain?

It's a fine line between private ownership and state ownership. Nothing can stop the seizure of a registered company in a state jurisdiction because all legal companies get permission from the state to operate. You would have to have your own allodial title jurisdiction to prevent seizure (which central banks like the BIS do), but even that is dependent on other jurisdictions refusing to invade and annex your base of operations. That's what the expelling of the Rhodesian farmers were about. 50% of the land was owned by whites, who were only a fraction of the entire population owned Allodial titles. It's why the white farmers won't go back because the Zimbabwe jurisdiction doesn't recognize their allodial titles, and going back means the white farmers have consented to this seizure.

Hm. Do you mean to say that the Fed would be the ones to confiscate? They already hijack the economy with money printing so I guess it's not unrealistic that they could seize the issuance of the stablecoin in a severe crash or something. Or maybe I'm misunderstanding what you're saying.

Nah, they understand, it's all fictitious except the metal.
The metal is what builds the cell to restrain those who can not.
Ironically in this realm "ownership" by persons other than Chist is the fiction. Bad stewards are the tares, and good ones are the wheat. And the reapers are coming.
