I've never read anything about gold before. I'm thinking about buying a small amount of Gold not as investment but in case the dollar collapses because I am young so I have probably the next 100 years to live you never know what happens. I'm not a prepper I just don't want to lose everything if something were to happen. How much should I buy? Would $5000 be enough to just afford to live in case of dollar collapse? 5000 times 50 = $250k

$5000 in Gold is a bit under two ounces at today's prices, which is 2 oz more than most people have, but is really tiny in the grand scheme of things. My gut tells me that you'd want around 5 oz. to get through a USD collapse scenario comfortably, but I have nothing to really back this up beyond gut feelings.
Another thing worth remembering is that (supposedly) the price for a refugee to get on a boat out of Vietnam in the 70s was 1 oz of Gold, so 1 oz per person whose life you value may also be a reasonable estimation of what you need.

It would go up in $ terms but the $ would be worth less, leaving you with the same value

If an ounce of gold buys 1 month of rent now it would buy 1 month of rent if the $ went to zero except you would owe income tax on the inflation so you would actually lose

Because there aren't many genuine Silver vendors in third world countries and demand tends to be especially low in India since they prefer Gold there.
Also India has a bunch of weird rules about PMs, so maybe that has something to do with it as well.

I don't do drugs, but the few times I have, it is amazing how much clarity they can bring you sometimes. Even basic facts or truths about circumstances can hit you in a way that almost seems profound.
I'm a major silver bull but I also keep money in a 401k, GME, and other resource stocks. I really do wonder how it is all going to pan out given the enormity of the problem. A massive debt jubilee will probably go hand in hand with all sorts of equity cancellations and nationalizations.

Incorrect. The bullion banks are on the short side of PMs.
If you look at the market crash of 2008, Volkswagen squeezed to insane multiples because it was already heavily sold. Settling those leveraged trades led to a major influx in buying. Precious metals prices are contained by shorts and the price correction could be jarring at a time when everything else sells off just like it did in 2008.
Precious metals, GME are all you need.

Yea, the shilling I see all day here on biz are them BEGGING and PLEADING with people to focus on things that don't matter. They want you to watch the BTC price or look at this stock over here, or sell your GME to chase after some other stock that doesn't matter.
The one thing to note about /biz/ is that the investments we have all honed in on are all votes on no-confidence in the system. I don't like BTC but that is a commonality with PMG. And the similarity between GME and PMG is the short interest being used to contain the price.
The truth is, the 2025 market is "solved". You don't need to go sniffing around looking for some short term profits. The only thing I think matters is the accumulation of silver and GME. Who cares if it takes 5 years for a neck-snapping price action. All that matters is locking in your chair. The the safety factor afforded to you from banking collapse (PMs), and a market collapse (GME - look at VW of 2008) then you are golden.
I actually buy up yieldmax ETFs just so I can rake in income. My portfolio is so solidly planted on the backfoot that I am hedged against basically any downturn. I can safely enjoy dangerously overly optimistic ETFs incase they kick the can another 5 years.

There is a catastrophic shortage of silver and we have been consuming above ground supplies for decades to make up for the deficit. 800M ounces divided by 8BN people is a few grams at most per person. And that is for all products consumed and investments and jewelry. It's not even accounting for the military industrial complex that needs massive quantities of it for bombs and airplanes etc.
IQ Dalit shows absolutely zero ability to refute anything PMG has to say but relies on red herrings and lies. His role is to keep people away from physical silver. So much so, that his shillies tactics have even turned towards PROMOTING the investment of silver mining companies. His whole nonstop, 24/7 facade is in complete opposition to physical silver. And that is EXACTLY where everyone needs to focus their attention. Get several hundred ounces first and then maybe grab some majors.

Shorts take the cash and they pump up their collateral used to hedge the short position. Things like Nvidia are at insane multiples because it is backstopping a leveraged trade.
When the shorts unwind, the collapse is going to be breathtaking when they get force liquidated. Which is why I stay the hell away from BTC. This is also a funny joke RC is playing on shorts is that he put BTC on the balance sheet. The shorts are now short BTC while also trying to pump its value at the same time. They are 100% seething because they can't pump BTC without pumping GME.

>Why are you buying gold/silver instead of bitcoin?
Investing in e-coin is little different than gambling. There is no reason for e-coin to gain value other than how many people buy into it. It's a Ponzi scheme. If you get in early, you win. Maybe now is early, who knows.
E-coin is vulnerable. As quantum computing comes online, the security in blockchains will be rendered near useless. An individual could be attacked and cleaned out, or a user could even lose the code and lose everything through carelessness or accident.
Not to say it doesn't have its uses. It's a good way to transport large sums of money internationally, for one example.

A few of them did. The issue is still ongoing. Gamestop is sitting on $9BN of cash, debt free, cash flow positive and the market cap is only like $10BN. Normally Wallstreet would see this as a promising opportunity to buy in or at the very least do a pump and dump on retail.
Back in May 2024 the price spiked to $80 in the premarket. So something very odd is going on, and that oddity is a systemic naked short position.

Yup on a technical standpoint, it's pretty clear we are about to see $45 silver before the end of summer, and probably $50 before EOY. There are zero drawbacks after each leg up, pure staircase chart, and the shorts are getting obliterated thus stay low, and futes @2M are nicely priced, well above spot.

Also we hear a lot of whining from (((LCS))) about the lack of buyers, but personally i purchase daily on ebay and demand is through the fucking roof, even for old scrap who sell not too far from spot, when it used to go for as low as -40% back in 2019/2020. The thirst for silver is real.
It's very frustrating really, slurping became a very strenuous hobby as of late.

Buy Yom Kippur, sell rosh hashanah

A guy was buying like 200 oz in the shop today. This is the second time I've seen other buyers. Normally it's just sellers. The lcs did have a bunch of new jewelry and grandmas silver combs and mirrors and stuff though.
As for the cats with like 3 oz to your name and you polish the shits, nah.
I've got a toddler, mans loves playing with his tube of generic rounds, clinking em and stacking and throwing and all that shit. At a 100 gsr, you're a dumbshit not stacking silver weight. I'll worry about keeping numismatics pretty when I exchange this banged up circulated silver for gold numis.

Idk, this coin is a real headhache. I posted on various forums, some tells me the coin is authentic, some others tells me they think it may be a cast...
For a bit of context, the coins was auctioned on ebay and 13 others unique bidders also bid on it, so if fake it was good enough to fool others (that doesnt mean much on ebay tho lol).
The issue here is the coin have been so harshly cleaned it's hard to identify potential counterfeiting details.

I try to get some infos on the necklace it was embedded into, if it's some old style (like XIXth c.) stuff, it will be most likely for the coin to be authentic, i don't think fakes were a thing back then (fake coinage existed, but not for numismatic value, it was only to fake coins currently in circulation with base metals, and the quality was quite dubious).

There was a millionaire a few years back that bought a bunch of nickels as an investment.
In case of inflation, the price of the metal would go up, meaning that the coins would be worth more than their face value. In case of deflation, the face value would be worth more and he could spend them as money.

If it was me I'd take it to a couple coin stores and ask. I couldn't see anything wrong with it, but I'm no expert on ancients. It was obviously cleaned, ground down on the edges, and soldered, but you know all that already. I'd guess that damage alone would greatly reduce the value if it's real.

as to being cast, I can't tell. Nothing about it looks obviously cast unless it's just a lack of sharpness. But that could be due to cleaning and wear. Need an expert in the type to look at it. If it's cast it was well done. None of the usual porosity, gaps, file marks, or sprue you'd get from an amateur job as far as I saw.

About halfway down the page:
>So, gold coins like the American Gold Eagle are exempt from collectible treatment *within IRAs*. However, they are still considered collectibles when calculating capital gains taxes owed from selling them outside of retirement accounts. Therefore, if youโ€™re asking are gold coins tax free, the answer is no. Profits from selling gold coins are taxed at the 28% collectible rate. This includes all gold coins, such as the American Gold Eagle, Canadian Maple Leaf, South African Krugerrand, vintage gold coins, and others.

For silver Eagles, the rule seems slightly different. For sales under $1k face value (1,000 coins) , you don't have to file a 1099-B (which I've never encountered). But you still have to report it on the 1040 and Schedule D:

Own Nothing, Be Happy:

(Verse 1)
Here's a little plan for you and me
No more stuff, just simplicity
(Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh)
You got no house, you got no car
Just rent a bike, no matter how far
(Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh)
Own nothing, be happy

(Chorus)
In this world of shared delight
Everything's borrowed, morning, noon, and night
(Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh)
You got no cash, you got no gold
Just digital credits, stories untold
(Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh)
Own nothing, be happy

(Verse 2)
The metaverse is where you'll roam
Never leave your tiny, rented home
(Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh)
No need for privacy, no need to hide
Big Brother's watching, with open eyes wide
(Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh)
Own nothing, be happy

(Chorus)
In this world of shared delight
Everything's borrowed, morning, noon, and night
(Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh)
You got no cash, you got no gold
Just digital credits, stories untold
(Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh)
Own nothing, be happy

(Bridge)
Don't fret about your freedom's plight
Just eat the bugs, with all your might
(Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh)
The experts know what's best for you
So just comply, and see it through
(Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh)

(Chorus)
In this world of shared delight
Everything's borrowed, morning, noon, and night
(Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh)
You got no cash, you got no gold
Just digital credits, stories untold
(Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh)
Own nothing, be happy

(Outro)
(Whistles tune and fades)
Don't worry, be happy
(Echoes) Own nothing, be happy...

Theres really no use case for silver investments, low return and high risk. If you bought 45 years ago you are still down 70% inflation adjusted. Name a worse investment class. You can't. It's hard to find a decade where stocks lose money much less a 45 year period

>why you aren't invested in mining stocks?
Who told you that investing in silver means no investment in other position? People on /biz/ are so stupid when it comes to diversification of portfolio. I keep seeing posts "you must invest in A instead of B", "no idiot, B is better, don't invest in A" while the most reasonable strategy is usually investing in both in proportion based on risk assessment.
I also see that tendency in /pmg/. People argue if metals or crypto is better all day. But if you are not a retard, you should buy both.

Take advantage of it if you have the resources to do so. Even selling it on ebay as scrap should get you a profit - especially if you can melt it into nice-looking bars. The biggest problem would be in proving the purity/content.

By talking about roth investments? You sure as aren't rich if you're bragging about investments in an account with a 7k yearly cap on contributions, that you wouldn't even be able to contribute to if you actually made decent money. Do you like these wheels?

>you're bragging about investments in an account with a 7k yearly cap on contributions,
Facts. On average, that is less than 1 quarter years' worth of financial energy of someone desiring to "make it" should be socking away.
And about what one who has made it donates per quarter.
I personally don't think there's anything wrong with 401k's or Roth IRA's or even insurance companies. However, they're all forms of rehypothication in financial instruments where you could very easily end up SOL.
Many go along to get along, and there's nothing inherently corrupt in this lifestyle, content to believe that nothing ever happens, that there's nothing to worry about.
Most here disagree, not out of anxiety or fear, but because we know the wickedness of our own imaginations and hearts, so we take precautions.
There is very little that can convince one who is constitutionally honest with themselves to "trust me bro" because we can barely trust ourselves.

dont bother the idiots here are retards who like being poor. i literally tried to get them to join me in making tons of money for the past 1.5 years and tehy always shout me down or call me a bitcoin shill which is hilarious because i never mention bitcoin once i just show my massive gains from buying calls on miners
