How do I leave my job gracefully?
I have just made it. $4.4 mil in the bank.

My employer has been nothing but good to me because I literally do 5x the work that everyone else does. And all the employees that I work with have been good to me, even though I have always been pretty much openly rude with them for 9 years, but they have learned to accept it because of my competence.

I feel like giving a 2 weeks notice is the right thing to do, but I don't want to open a window of opportunity where I have to answer any questions as to where I'm going next and why I'm quitting, etc.

Wat do?

Just be honest with your employer. Tell them that you plan on taking a long sabbatical due to your wealth that youre going to need to actively manage.

Ita the same thing in the military where if you stumble across a shit ton of fortune they will give you the ability to be discharged early due to obvious conflicts of interest when needing to do your job.

give them more than 2 weeks
you held out 9 years
sit down with who actually knows your value and will make a hiring decision.
tell them you would like to leave to retire and want to help ease the transition.

This thread is full of absolute fucking morons...
Do not under any circumstances talk about your money, the evil eye is not to be taken lightly.

If you find the idea of lying for 2 weeks too awkward, you could always get a new job and then just not show up to it.

Why quit your job just because you’re a 4lmao millionaire?
I get a job isn’t necessary anymore but there’s something to be said for the social benefits that come with working at a good company (which it sounds like you do) and keeping your skills sharp through constinued engagement.
Life comes at you fast; just because the job isn’t essential today doesn’t mean you’ll never need it again.
In your shoes,I’m keeping the job until it becomes a total pain in the ass for whatever reason. I’d use the monthly wagebux as crypto/stock speculation money/beer money while keeping the millions around as a safety cushion

This.
You don’t know which of your coworkers would be willing to show up at your place and bust your kneecaps to see if that’d be enough to pry your millions from your hands.
You don’t wanna find out. Hell, those guys may not even know they’re capable of such things til they hear there’s a millionaire in the office two doors down.

The best move it to use the rest of your pto so it gets applied to your 401k match and then just dont come back. The real pro move is to retire near the beginning of the year and work exactly long enough to use up all your new PTO, switch your 401k contributions to all roth, and get exactly enough pay so that you fill your deductions and get all the money into the roth bucket at 0% tax rate.

Just firmly say...
>I'm moving on in life to something else and I won't elaborate further. As part of this I want to help you move on and transition as easily as possible.
>You have one month in which I'll help however I reasonably can

Straight forward and firm and they won't bother asking.
A firm statement that is obviously set in stone by it's delivery is all that it takes.

Take the PTO for sure. But karmicly you should just error on the side of "hey there's no way I screwed you at all" area imo.

Give notice, get what's yours. Move on.

Since you don't need their salary anymore you are in a good position to negotiate for equity in exchange for your services (eg. Advisory role)
You could work a lot less and just attend a meeting every other week, and still grow your stack

Just do the two weeks and a nice light exit interview with your manager. Just say another opportunity came up that you couldn't refuse. But you really enjoyed your time with this company and will miss them. They'll document the conversation.

Contracting is a good one. They won’t be inquisitive about where you end up to follow up on. I’m in the same boat as OP, but I don’t see the need to quit. Because I can’t think of doing anything else to entertain myself at the moment. I drive a 15 year old honda accord.
Anonymous (ID: jp6gXD4a) No.60670975
Everyone thinks they are irreplaceable but they’re not. Just put in your two weeks in case shit goes Tita up and you need your job back. I doubt any of your bosses will even care. They’ll just hire someone who can do what you do but they can pay for less because they haven’t been working there 9 years. They might even be happy about it

given the employer has to give effectively no notice to make you redundant, 2-weeks notice by the employee should be sufficient time.

I have never given a 2 week notice to a supervisor. And I’m a good employee. After sending my last resignation letter, my boss graciously told me thanks for everything, and that I’ll always have a job if I want one. But I just don’t care. No one calls references anymore and it’s just a fucking job, even if it’s white collar. Just get up and leave; you owe them nothing and it’s a pointless waste of time to stay there.

You’re thinking too much of yourself. Idc one way or another, it it’s no big deal to give two weeks notice and say you’re going to school, or moving away, or taking care of a family member. Who knows, you might want to keep working if they offer you health benefits

You have the cards. If you still like the job, tell your boss that you would like to change your working hours and role to a more advisory/senior position. Maybe you could get paid almost what you have today but work only 2 days per week

I did this exact thing last month. I gave my bosses (at two jobs) 3 weeks notice with a AI-enhanced email and then we spoke in person a week or two later. It was a bit awkward and annoying having to deal with everyone's shock and questions about my next move but I guess that's better than them shooting me a bunch of texts/emails for weeks after I leave.
Everyone believes I'm taking a one-year sabbatical with plans to come back to work but I have no intentions of going back unless something catastrophic happens to my finances. I made a bunch of false promises that I'll "keep in touch" and open an Instagram about my adventures while living abroad (lmao).
Now I'm 5 weeks into my early retirement and haven't heard from 95% of them. Life is good.

"Hey boss, I'm announcing my retirement starting on XX date."
That's it.
Depending on age no one will question it.
If you're younger then just say you came into a windfall and decided to retire.
Alternatively, "due to changes in my living circumstances I'll be putting in my two weeks notice with my last day being XX. Its a sensitive topic so I won't be able to answer follow up questions. Thank you for understanding."

Yeah it kinda is.

The military can discharge you whenever they want for almost any reason. If PFC fuckface wins the lottery or inherits millions they know he can just go AWOL and not give a fuck. Discharging someone is better than trying get to someone with fuck you money to care about military discipline.

It's a "unique circumstance" discharge. It's pretty rare, but they offer for good reason.
