This is nonsense because the entire point of a short squeeze is the disconnect of supply against real shares. If the market maker and short sellers are naked shorting, then what is actually happening is they are making ledger entries stating they "owe" shares to investors. That number should ideally be pretty close to the number of shares the brokers actually owns themselves. When you staty DRSing your shares, you are telling your broker to make good on the share they sold you and to send it to the transfer agent.
That event will reduce the number of shares the broker has as well as the liability for shares as that liability now belongs to the transfer agent.
Just because the market maker can manipulate the price is completely irrelevant to the absolute reality that only a finite number of real shares exist. As you DRS shares, the broker has to go to buy more from the dark pool. And sometimes we see glitches of $5000+ share price. I wonder if the brokers are eating those prices when they need to go stock up on the real deal? I remember when Charles Schwab went and bought 300,000 more shares of GME. It seems like such a tiny little ration of shares, does it not?
It's all fud, because at the end of the day it will be supply/demand that impacts the price. Short positions are leveraged and collateralized with margin so they can not continue to do it forever. If margin didn't matter, why not set the price at $2000 and just let it sit there until enough organic selling occurs to alleviate the naked shorts? If their pockets are infinite it would be easier to do that than juggle the price forever.

The real consideration here is to ask yourself why the shareprice needs to be so low at $23 when logically speaking, a higher price will reduce the number of shares bought as well as give shorts more power to short. I think a massive 2021 type squeeze is at the minimum what to expect. A runup to triple digits would only be the beginning and it would be entirely dependent on Citadel to acquire a loan to kick the can some more and to crush the price lower. I personally think the Fed is probably assisting with some back-door shenanigans to keep Citadel alive. Counterpartys to derivatives contracts are the source of all of this contagion. That doesn't mean a swap can magically solve the problem for the shorts though.

The issue with DRS is that most gme holders don't actually care about punishing Wall Street or the infinite squeeze beyond a superficial level.
If the MIT PhDs on Wall Street engineer a situation where they get out of their shorts and make GME go to 1000 a share, despite what people like to say, a large amount of holders will leave.
This general and superstonk became increasingly dead over the years, but especially after the 2024 pump, when many people seemed to exit their positions and move on with their lives.
Hedgies don't want to because it'll cost them money, but eventually a pump will be engineered that shakes off a critical mass of people, and the remainder of the holders no longer matters.
I'd love to be wrong, though, and have an infinity squeeze with an infinity pool that destroys the global economic system and makes gme holders the new ruling class.
I agree with the original thesis that if enough people hold, eventually the system has to fall. However after 4+ years I will admit that people with enough money to buy share amounts that matter aren't likely to hold forever.

I could see it being a genuine glitch if it impacted other companies on the same website - swap division for multiplication by mistake when converting from some integer quantity to real dollars and cents. What I can't see is it being a glitch for GME alone. Did anyone confirm other companies were also displaying in the trillions or quadrillions on the Barclay's website?
