If they tried to directly compete with tiktok then the main thing they offer is X integration, which gives it at minimum a niche market. If the leaks about tipping with VINE are true, then it's a new method of monetization without as much red tape for creators.

Frankly tiktok has been enormous for about the right amount of time for something to slide a bit of market share away. Social media markets are mercurial and always changing. Do I think VINE will outcompete it? Extremely unlikely in the near term, but might be interesting enough to pull a decent share of a massive amount of money worldwide.
