You're aiming too low. You need to go apply for a job a technician for a bug company. It's not glamorous, but it's pretty comfy. Drive around and spray insecticide on some houses, clean up some spider webs. Collect a paycheck.

This happened to you because boomers saturated the market with jeets instead of passing the baton on to their children. A lot has to do with luck and it has also gotten really bad lately, my whole work place has been infiltrated by them.

The job market is just crap for most people right now. It’s not only you.

I would say look for contract roles or try to get into freelancing. The application / interview process for traditional employment has become so cumbersome and a waste of your time that I would say to not even participate, unless you enjoy spending all day tweaking your resume to get past the company’s ATS system and then getting strung along for 5 rounds of interviews per position only to get your inbox flooded with emails that contain the following phrases:
>after careful consideration
>at this time
>Unfortunately,

On point 9. I’m saying the manager likely will duck you if you just say “I’m here to apply” so if you want to get face to face with them you should just find any employee and tell them “I was in the other night and I wanted to talk to the manager about it”.
That will get them in front of you, then give your pitch.
If they deflect and say “well I’m not the hiring manager” ask when they’re in.
If they’re still playing games you have two options
1. You can just bounce because if they’re going this out or their way to avoid hiring then they’re probably toxic and the architects of their own misfortune anyway.
2. Say you understand they’re busy and that you’d like to leave your resume with them and they can reach out if they need you.

As a disclaimer some restaurants are seasonal so they may be entering either a contracting or expansive phase with hiring.
When you interview you should ask the manager if the restaurant is seasonal and if so can they describe the seasonality to you.
If you’re working on mostly tips you don’t want to be filling the shoes of people who left when all the meat came off the bone and walk into the slow season.

I just pulled the ethernet cable out of my computer when the interviewer asked me why I don't have a degree. The interview was going poorly anyways and felt like an interrogation. Fuck it guess I'll never get a job if they're all going to go this way

Good you have to control the narrative. I bombed a technical interview and while they were pretty nice an encouraging about it, I realize now in hindsight I should have halted the technical stuff they were asking that I didn't know and said what my skillset is instead. Then they could choose to listen or end it, but it wouldn't have wasted both of our time.

Yep I think my new strategy is going to be to just be blunt and straightforward no matter what. I never do well in situations where I have to lie on the spot or put on a fake persona, (I am a terrible actor who also gets stage fright) so from now on if it feels like the interview is going poorly im just going to end it early either by disconnecting or getting up in the middle of an interview and leaving (which is awkward, but less awkward than sitting through a bad interview.)
Anonymous (ID: oCG3O6mD) No.60718456 >>60719865

Yeah be blunt and don't overthink, fricken rules to life I need to remind myself of it too. I once unintentionally bluffed a job offer in my favor by heavily implying I had a competing offer, but it was really just me poorly describing my current work situation.
Though that was well before the technical interview became lamestream. I'm probably fucked now and would focus only on non and semi technical roles just because I can't be assed to do some gay coding challenge.

>working for an IT degree I don't really want
Well there's a big part of your problem.
I can't really blame you for that, but employers look for new grads who are interested in a topic, not new grads who just gritted their teeth to get a degree in a subject they hate because they heard it can pay.

But there's been some changes in how H-1B visas are going to be allocated going forward, so you might end up losing the competition from the low-wage Poojeet crowd soon.

That's why you can't find a job in the field. The days of people studying IT just for a high paying job when they have no genuine interest in the field is over, and it was only a thing for like 10 years at the most.
If you want to work in IT you need to at least feign genuine interest. Hiring managers can sniff out people who only know what they learned in school vs those who read ISO documents for fun.

The "in my field" thing is a meme. It's only real at companies with at least 100 employees.
Just list your skill sets and apply for any job vaguely relevant.
I studied Graphic Design.
My job for the last two years has been a mix of web dev, IT, video editor, and graphic design.
A sidejob I quit this winter was literally just IT and I wanted to blow my brains out. I had no qualifications for it, I was just trusted by the employer (not anymore, whoops) and happened to be more tech savvy than all the other employees.

A restaurant that isn't a fast food chain isn't going to tell you to apply online. That's probably the one industry you still show up in person to ask if they're hiring.
