Isn't this the absolute definition of that meme where a dude is about to find tons of diamonds but stops right before?

There is a zero sum chance probability that a spinning hard drive survived being in a land fill for 12 years.

Forget the physical damage, its been sitting out in the elements for that long it will degrade. Chemicals, the exact same drives to mismatch, rusting, etc, etc.

Thats why you store your seed phrase on either a self hosted DIY NAS or you split it up into SSSS and then part out those shares between different email accounts and other online storage solutions.

This dude's gonna kill himself. Wait and see. I'm not even trying to be funny
No one takes part in a search like this for that amount of time, then just gives up and lives his life normally afterwards

I wonder what that guy is thinking right now? Oh, I know, he's thinking, "Where is that hard drive?"

This. This is probably why he ended his search

Would maybe make a decent black mirror episode. His obsession would deteriorate all his relationships and then at the end when he is just about to find it his crying wife begs him to stop and he gives up.

Yes, zero-sum as in he loses everything and the amount of bitcoin there is will be permanently lost. Lowering the supply.

Semantic niggers are out of their holes tonight.

That hard drive, if it ever existed, is long gone. Landfills compact their trash with heavy machinery.

Probably not true. It's a sealed unit and wouldn't be likely to have water intrusion without being submerged. It very likely could be recovered still, but it will never be found.
Anonymous (ID: PZG17qNp) No.60733163
No because this article is from last year. If he had just set up a miner in 2012 when he started his search he would have become rich anyway. I have no idea what he was thinking. His Bitcoin would have been worth like 100k back then.

I don't much about him but listened to him speak during the Bitcoin Nashville conference and he didn't sound like some happy guy nor was he even trying to make light about his situation. He seemed very frustrated (understandably), was bickering about issues with the local government, etc.
I get it. But it was kind of a mood killer. I expected him doing some light hearted ted talk style thing about lessons from his experience or something. Nope, the mood was palpable frustration and asking people to help in his quest.

Don't know anything about him and wish him well. But I'm afraid you might be onto something.
