How do you cope with people your age making more than you?
How do you cope with the fact that people in san francisco and new york make multiple times you doing THE SAME fucking work. They're likely saving more as well.

All I needed to realize when I was younger is that salaries are NOT dependent on the cost of living (although it plays a small factor) . Salaries are an effect of companies competing heavily for similar labor which more companies in an area looking for similar skills drives salaries up. Notice how a codenigger will get paid 300k (even at non-faang) in SF and a fucking data analyst will get paid 185k. HR trannies frequently take home $150k

Meanwhile you’re busting your ass for $85k in an MCOL with a bunch of boomers, and if you ask for more, they’ll tell you “that’s just what the market is here.” It doesn’t matter if your work is the exact same—the dude pushing code in a high-rise in SF cashes out, while you just hope gas doesn’t go up another 20 cents this month. Every company’s excuse is “cost of living,” but the truth is that talent density and hyper-competition in those markets make them shell out.

It’s not even that you’re less skilled, or less committed. It’s just that you live somewhere companies know you’ll settle for less. They’ll fly some consultant out to “benchmark” your job and come back with “industry standard” numbers that always happen to keep you broke. Now that I'm 34 i realized that its not the skills holding you back its the location.

Who cares
Why are you comparing yourself to other people?
Compare yourself to your own goals

Do people even have goals nowadays?
Or is their "goal" just some vague "be the biggest, bestest, richest person in the room"

Money actually has an END goal, it's not just some endless acquisition of resources

Highly unlikely. I'm happily early-retired now but I used to make up to $200k annually when I was working in a MCOL part of Georgia. An individual with the same career in VHCOL area like NYC or SF might make $10k-$20k more if they're lucky. That's nowhere near enough to cover the difference in living expenses.

There are people who don't need to work and never needed to work.

The vice president of our company is 24 years old. His great grandfather started the company I work for, and his family has basically been set for life since the mid-90s. Him and his father (the current owner who he will take over for eventually) have some of the worst case of two-faced silver-spoon-in-the-mouth disease I've ever had to deal with.

The 24 year old has a hot wife, moved into a 4 million dollar mansion late last year, and basically has no problems in life. He coasts through life, occasionally snottily ordering us underlings around, before fucking off to go do whatever network schmoozing his father is having him do.

Some people just have it piss easy. Life's unfair. Maybe one day for the VP and his family, life will actually get hard, then they'll all be eaten alive by the outside world, or maybe not. It sucks, but that's life. Best we can do is make our own lives as good as possible in spite of it all.

you know man

i work for 1500$ per month in a call center yet i am worth more than 99% in my country

i accepted that i was not career oriented because it's horrible for me to "compete" for a job

so instead of whining about this i chose to stack BTC until i die

my gf makes 3 times more than me yet she is worth 10 times less

Who cares? All you need is a laptop and a phone, there's nothing else to buy
