The end goal is to scratch two itches, a Hacker News clone but for finance, and a tool to research, develop and deploy strategies.

What I intend for the tool to do differently is to cache signals from strategies into a database, and put a lot of emphasis on the research phase of the workflow. I don't see other platforms doing that, they usually treat backtests as a one off process and you get what you get at the end. I want the user to have the ability to inspect performance under various regimes, correlation with other strategies, explore optimal parameters (including take profit and stop loss), etc etc in an exploratory manner. This currently takes place on the 'Research' tab, essentially a Jupyter notebook with a library of snippets and templates to facilitate exploratory analysis without much code. This is how it works on my offline backend currently, I use Jupyter notebooks in the same manner.

The Develop tab will be an IDE that facilitates development of new strategies, execution models, etc, the Replay tab is used to step through bar by bar with an event log to ensure it's functioning properly..

Also look at smallcaps, which are often live or die R&D acquisition machines. It takes like 7-10 years to get a new drug approved from start to finish

If you actually want to deep dive and not just play potential news events, you have to look at partnerships and burn rates as well
