I don't understand why people speak with respect of rich people they personally know. "oh he's this and that". and people get angry at me when I don't show the same reverence. they think it's because I've a chip on my shoulder. why am I supposed to have reverence for rich people, how does them having money help me? I just don't get it.

Because having money implies they are either really smart or really hot. Knowing rich people also gives others the assumptions that you share some traits with them, as they are/were in the same tribe at one point. I doubt they are actually getting angry unless you are being autistic.

I think it has to do with people recognizing that the "rich" person has accomplished something in life.
(built a business, made wise investments, are generally smarter then the average person) you don't need to lick rich peoples asses but you should recognize greatness if it has been achieved.

Sorry OP with the outlook you have & clear chip on your should you are NGMI.

They obviously don't help you- do you look at all people with the mindset of "how can this person help me?" or "what can I take from this person?"
It sounds like you go out of your way to be deliberately disrespectful to someone who is in a better socioeconomic position then you.

Originates from Protestant Reformation theology, particularly Calvinism.

Calvinists believed in predestination β€” that God has already chosen who will be saved. You can’t change your fate, but your behavior might reflect whether you are among the chosen.

Because wealth and success could be interpreted as signs of God’s blessing, people worked hard, avoided idleness, and reinvested profits instead of spending lavishly.

Over time, this ethic fed into capitalist values: thrift, productivity, and viewing work as a moral duty.

Key literature & thinkers

Max Weber – The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism (1905) – The most famous work connecting Protestant religious values with the rise of capitalism in Europe.

John Calvin – Institutes of the Christian Religion (1536) – The theological backbone for Calvinist ideas about work, morality, and predestination.

Richard Baxter – Christian Directory (1673) – Puritan moral guidance stressing industry and stewardship of wealth for God’s glory.

Benjamin Franklin – Writings like Poor Richard’s Almanack – Secularized version of the ethic: thrift, industriousness, time management.

Cotton Mather – Puritan preacher who linked diligence to godliness in colonial America.

Based

Thing is people just have a natural nose for money, and people with money go wafting it around trying to catch others on the scent.

And then they go on about trying to get little pieces of it. By flattery and convenience and warmth and love or whatever the hell else. Rich guys foster the idea that they might break off a piece at any time, even though they never do.

Thing is what you have to be is clearly unswayed by those false promises (this will be the first distinguishing feature) because you know better. Then what you need is a specialized skill. You don't wait for a dusting of crumbs to fall off, you show up with a hammer and a chisel to take a real meaningful piece of it.

>They obviously don't help you- do you look at all people with the mindset of "how can this person help me?" or "what can I take from this person?"

To an extent, yes, and that's how rich people operate, and it's actually how they expect you to operate. Rich people walk around all day every day thinking "Can this person help me?" and if the answer is no, to hell with them.

The correct way to look at a rich person is "How can this person help me?" and if the answer is no, TO HELL WITH THEM.

Their accomplishments aren't meant to help you, it's supposed to be a status flex to the person that told you. Usually with normies if you tell someone you know a rich and/or famous person they will treat you differently EVEN IF you yourself aren't rich or famous. Just knowing them puts you in a different bracket.

Most rich people become this way because they have rich family money or lucked the fuck out in some way. The idea that every rich person got there through merit is idiotic. I would say only 10-20% actually overcame major setbacks in life and got rich through sheer hard work and grit. Most self made rich were simply in the right place at the right time

They have terrible attitudes because having no money means you'll lose your shelter, food, basically your very means of survival. If you were poor like them, you wouldn't resolve to live like them and instead jump off the edge of the Grand Canyon.
