Considering that ChatGPT launched a new version specifically to lower it's cost, they lose money on every single paid users (which only 2-3% are) and obviously also every single non-paying users.
You convert less than 3% of the free users to paid users, while subsidizing the product the paying users have, so you lose ~$200 a month on every subscription.
They have to lower the quality significantly to achieve any sort of profitability, and currently people aren't even willing to pay for the product at this "bellow market price" price.
The moat on this money-losing-scheme is also weak, borderline non-existing. Grok, Claude, etc.. all produce similar results. Deep Seek demonstrated that you don't need the hardware.
I specifically talk about OpenAI because it dwarves all other LLM's in terms of users, it basically IS LLM.
The good news is that this might be really bullish for crypto, currently the damage is contained to Mag7 (excluding Apple) and private equity. But the investment that has been made into this have single handily made the US economy seem fairly strong, if you remove this data center boom from the economy, you get a frail economy begging to be stimulated = easy money is good for crypto.
