I have 15k in debt, should I file bankruptcy?
I'm 26 years old and I'm 15k in debt due to medical bills (involuntarily committed to a mental health facility) and hitting someone backing out of a parking lot (Only scratched the back of their car but the insurance company wants me to pay 2.3k). I'm also 20k in debt from student loans from a degree that hasn't opened any doors for me (Microbiology). I don't want to pay the medical debt at all but I know that is going to ruin my credit. What should I do? I only make 38k a year.

If it's medical bills look up how to dispute the debt and just put down that you don't think you've ever been there. Due to HIPPA laws on privacy they can't actually look up your records, and therefore can't prove it's you to prove the debt.

Or at least that's what someone told me.

find a way to make more than 38k/year?

if you're able to live on 38k, finding a job that makes an extra 15k shouldn't be hard and there's your money to pay off your debt.

My local plumbers union starts their apprentices at $22/hr and it only goes up from there. Something to consider. There's even some paid class time in there.

I don't believe you can file bankruptcy on medical or student loan debt, but even if you could, I don't think you would want to unless you're cash rich and don't care about your credit score

just do this shit, completely ignore medical debt. Youd be very retarded to pay one single cent of it. nothing will happen. Had like 8k show up on my credit report, disputed it, it dropped off. don't pay them at all. if you dont have a six figure salary job then just say youre homeless and get medicaid. Ez

15k is literally nothing OP. it won't even buy you a used honda, so why worry about it?

you need to step your game up from earning 38k a year and start thinking bigger right the fuck now

the richest people in the world fuel their lifestyle with debt. consider ben mallah who has a fleet of rolls royces, owns hotels, and lives in a 40,000 sq foot mansion.

bankruptcy makes you nuclear and makes it almost impossible to buy a house for 2-4 years.

didn't finish my point -- ben mallah (this fat rat fuck) has a net worth close to 0 yet he lives live a king. what's YOUR excuse?

Ben Mallah said that he got his start managing ghetto properties for other people, a skill he built from previous experience in that area. OP doesn't even sound like he has a complete grasp on the world around him, let alone how to hold down a job.

you literally dont have to pay medical bills bro, it doesn't hurt your credit. they go to collections, get reduced, then disappear. student loans you cant get out of though.
Anonymous (ID: TLXJF9TS) No.60785581
>>60781620 (OP)
at least you have that option. here in glorious communist eu you don't and the government enforces collections by running the agency themselves

Did you sign anything with the hospital allowing them to take your property if you don't pay? If so then you need to find a way to pay. Call and ask for a settlement. Tell them due to mental illness there's a chance you'll never pay them back and you'd be willing to settle for 50c on the dollar. Then divide that up into 48 or 60 payments. Offer to make those monthly payments with no interest.

If you did not sign over your property to the hospital, you can just not pay. The debt will be sent to a debt collector and you can negotiate something similar with them.

You can also Google 'debt relief counseling' and get a free consultation on what your options are. They will try to buy the debt and become your lender, which might be an option for you, but even if not they will give you free info on options.

Basically, bankruptcy is a last option.

Also, you might want to research (in your soul, and with social workers) why this involuntary hospitalization happened, and what steps you can take in order to prevent it from happening again.
Anonymous (ID: dQFfOnWM) No.60785683
Bankruptcy is for people owing $250k - $1m or more, not $15k.
Student loans are not discharged by bankruptcy.
The only thing you'd need a good credit score for really is a mortgage. Home ownership should definitely be a goal so try to avoid bankruptcy.

Psychotic episodes can pass on their own, especially if they're drug induced or something. You can't really judge this over the internet. If he's managing to hold down a job it's probably safe to assume he isn't full schizo.

you just have to learn to trade and try to get rich or get some valuable skills, or become a scammer or thief. The older you get the more you realize money is a meme and our society is a joke. Just go get a piece of the pie nobody will remember you existed anyway.
