working a job for a corporation is so fucking gay. i wfh and get paid a decent amount of money for not 'a lot' of work but there's no security. they could outsource my job to india. they could offload my work on to someone else. they could try (and fail) to automate my job. i can't DO anything risky because of this, very much a sword of damocles situation.

as an example, i can't move to a rural area and wfh because what if i lose my job? this is very much purgatory and it's not unique to my position or unique to me being wfh. you grind your way up to $100-150k a year working for a corporation and there's no security. and if it gets ripped away you're fucked, because it might take 1-2 year to find another job like that, probably with a pay cut.

Current year is as bad as it's ever been regarding and sense that a company values you.
I have no answer for you other than the trite but true answer. The only thing you really can control is your skill, keep learning new things and building skillset to be marketable and make sure you are making friends outside your workplace(like with suppliers and vendors etc) because they are the way you get another wagie roll if you get laid off....

generally speaking, working is fucking horrible unless you're on a mission or passion. I was lucky to came into coding in my 30s it's a job i can bear i actually enjoy doing it i will soon be senior and make very decent money while not having to play the social larp game that i absolutely hate and would have never accepted playing. But even then, it's clear that i'm going to end up living in a very remote and secluded area soon. I just can't stand people generally. And for right reasons. They're fucking stupid, toxic, you have to somehow give a shit about being le nice and le normal
Ultimately working is a scam, you don't need it, best life is to live in nature and live frugally with some very low stress / rural job

working from home has to be the single biggest cuck move you can do to yourself. The benefits do not outweigh the downsides. Go to the fucking office and you will thank me.

Depends...
- Offices are not worth it for people who take care of kids at home.
They can be worth it for people who want to escape their wives and kids.
- They can be good for making friends.
But it can be very unpleasant when there is nobody to connect to e.g. few people go, or you are surrounded by antisocial spergs, or the women are unattractive
- They can provide you with a comfortable place to work.
But they can also be noisy and poorly equipped.
And it usually costs time and money to go there. Plus 80% of WFH people work with teams across the world and not with the people in their home location.

??? fed government already revoked wfh. many state governments are revoking wfh. gavin jewsom was in the news yesterday for rejecting a study that WFH costs the state of california taxpayers like $200M a year in real estate costs. https://www.sfchronicle.com/politics/article/newsom-remote-work-20814468.php

Yep. I make like $200k. I deserve every dollar for the work I do but once you get to a certain range of pay and responsibility finding another job can be very painful. Either you get lucky and someone in your network is hiring for a relevant position, or you grind away for like 2-6 months with the application and interview humiliation ritual. Every interview process at that level is minimum 4 interviews, sometimes they ask you to do some sort of exercise (which you should either say no to or ask them to pay you for, fuck doing free work for anyone). It's a full time job to apply. So generally it's best just to sit tight and hope you don't get let go, but should that day come you better have a nice nest egg to fall back on.

And yea, you are basically a slave dedicating minimum 40 hrs of time per week of your life to something you don't give a shit about. Even if you're not working the whole time generally it's not like you can go out and do fun stuff, you need to sit at your computer and best case you're watching TV or playing vidya or browsing /biz/ which are also all soul sucking.

Waging is honestly the worst existence.

only for NPCs without a family, sure
sleeping in every day, shitting on my own toilet, no commuting time is worth even a 50% pay cut for me

Well there are always two sides.
I live and work in germany. You basically can't get fired expect for when the company is financially fucked and close to bankruptcy (with external audit, they can't just claim it's bad and let you go) OR when you as an employer fuck up by straight up stealing something big or something small multiple times. Outside of that you're secure. But that comes with the typical europoor wage. I have a university degree and close to 10 years experience, yet I only make like 30k a year after tax. Life is obciously cheaper in some aspects (not housing but else).

Trust me when I say grass is always greener on the other side. Ethereum could free me from corporate chains any day now, then I will do fuck all and see what they do about it kek.

I’ve been doing this for like a decade while putting basically all earnings into stocks and crypto. I probably have enough to retire now, but I’m hoping to get fired soon so I get some sort of severance to propel me into a simple neet life.

bruder bitte was? I am glad I dropped college and went straight into an apprenticeship hearing these values. I probably earned similiar money last year and I only work 32h per week in a small 4 man company.

yeah, fell for the "do-what-you-love" meme and ended up in Uni for a media related degree. I became what I dreamt of being when I was 13: A fulltime graphic designer. Or Agenturensohn. The money is bad in this corner of the job market lmao

I graduated college last year, worked in public accounting in an office for a year, got laid off, and am thinking I NEVER want to work in an office again.

>go spend time with a bunch of fucking souless husks that want nothing more than get the fuck out of said office to go home and spend whatever little free time they have quietly before having to repeat the same cycle five days a week (or more)
these people don't like you. they don't want to listen to you for a second longer than necessary. if someoned handed your average coworker a glock to shoot you in the head for a million dollars in exchange they'd do it with a smile of relief on their face.
