Eating take out and eating at home are becoming eerily similar in price in the wrong direction

Home is still cheaper and tastes better. Some of these restaurants are getting crazy with their prices. They are bringing back more "value" meals but geez, it has been nuts last few years

you can buy chicken for $1/lb at costco. 2 chickens cost me $10 and last me a whole week.

I cook the wings and thighs together in a dry rub blend that i make, and eat with air fried french fries, about $3 in side ingredients

The next 3-4 days is the 4 chicken breasts, this week I cooked them into a cajun chicken pasta. Pasta ingredients cost me like $15

The 4 chicken thighs last me a day, and I do a 1 pan skillet thing w/ cream, garlic, shallots, spices. Probably about $5 in side ingredients

This is eating good for well under $10 a day.

Not when I was fat but extended fasting when you have low body fat overall percentage can be bad. I realized I can live off of just eating once a day though and sometimes save money by just eating a breakfast buffet for 8 dollars.

Can someone give me a good meal to eat every day for like $2 total. I usually just make buttered noodles and a few eggs, maybe some 5% fat yogurt if I'm feeling rich.

Nah. I can eat $5 in chicken and rice and it's super nutritious, or I can get less nutrition at chipotle for $14, but it's a little tastier.
Maybe I should invest in cilantro.

No way in hell they are similar in price. I guess if you make some crazy, fancy meal every night for yourself and don't eat leftovers then I could see how you could make that comparison. But if you are normal and make chicken or something and cook at home it is much cheaper. For the price of a meal from fast food , ~15$, you can get 3.5 lbs of chicken and a bag of potatoes and eat the whole week

You can make chicken as good as chipotle. You just need to marinade the chicken breasts overnight and grill the next day. If you want the perfect copycat recipe you can find it online but it's not hard.

My grocery bill is about $1500/mo for my family of 6 (granted, all the kiddos are below 9 yrs old, so they might count as one person put together, calorie-wise). So counting them as one, that's roughly $50/day for 3 people, and we eat like kings. We go through mountains of prime fruit every season of the year, the cart is always full of fresh veg, our go-to cut is flap steak but if they're out we go with ribeyes, always wild-caught fish. We have chickens, so our breakfasts are cheaper for that reason I guess, but I cook hot breakfast for everyone every morning. My wife would regularly kill for egg tacos, and when we have leftover steak and the jalapeΓ±os are in season, she gets a killer breakfast. I show people I love them by cooking them good food.

But yeah, home cooking is so much cheaper than eating out, and the gap only grows the more people you're feeding.

here is a staple instant pot recipe which lasts me 10-14 days:

2 lbs cubed chicken
1.5 lbs Smithfield Marinated Pork Tenderloin (pick a flavor)
1 large yellow onion
few dollops of garlic
fresh rosemary
salt & pepper
1 small can of good tomato paste OR
2 dollops of Better than Bouillon beef chipotle flavored
2 cups of de-glazer: either red wine or balsamic vinegar (which i prefer)
1 large can of diced tomatoes
1 can of navy beans
1 can of black beans
4 cups of brown rice
3 cups of lentils
3 cups of split peas
1.5-2 boxes of chicken stock
brown chicken and pork with onions & garlic (season)(remove)
add onion & garlic & rosemary, sautee, then add bouillon paste or tomato paste until darkened/"cooked". use de-glazer of your choosing.
add large can of dice tomatoes
season & cook until darkened
turn off sautee function
return meat to pot
add
rice, beans, lentils, split peas, and chicken stock until just below capacity.
pressure cook on high for 30 minutes or so.

on its own it'll last at least a week but i like to eat with tortilla chips, sour cream, and salsa which stretches' it out almost twice as long. i can eat this everyday, twice a day. and it keeps for weeks.
