the tech sector has transitioned from a "degree required" field of work to now a "skills based" employment criteria.
so an autist with a elite github account and no formal education will be hired before some wagie wannabe slacker who has a humiliating github "but holds a comp sci degree"
this is whats making a lot of these guys who grinded college mad. they just wanted the $100k+/yr job and basically do nothing all day instead of actually working in their field building things never before imagined.
so naturally they are working low skilled jobs that dont require degrees bc they were never fully comitted to being a programmer to begin with.
if they were they'd be using their skills to actually build something useful, but they're not.
instead they are asking u if you'd like beans or beef on ur buritto.

i know this guy from a shitlord 4chan discord server ive hanged out in for years and hes an extreme meth head but heres the thing, hes a brilliant self taught computer scientist with a github account that holds the world record for a specific piece of code. he landed a job at a tech company based entirely off his github account alone. no formal education beyond high school. those are the ppl that get hired now, its actual talent > wagie college degree grinders.

You can look up what most of these pay. $500k might even be low for the Meta manager and the databricks Sr Staff

Dropped out in the 10th grade
Got a 2-year degree in journalism from a podunk community college.
Taught myself BASIC, then z-80 assembly.
Taught myself HPUX, Solaris and then Linux.
Worked every job in IT: sales, server monkey, call center, desktop support, application SME, NOC, SA, SE, SRE. Everything but coding.
Worked for HP, Agilent, Microsoft, a bunch of smaller companies.
Brought in $145k + $20k bonus this year working as a former SRE (now AI 'engineer') at a health insurance company. My pay should go up between 7% - 10% in '26. That's on top of a $2k p/m pension and
I've never been asked about either my lack of a high school diploma or my worthless degree during my whole career.

The whole "learn to code" bullshit of the past quarter center was a psyop to lower the salaries of software engineers through an influx of supply. This and AI got it accomplished. Of course S tier people are always welcome, but everyone else got a bachelors in CS for nothing.

This is true for all unlicensed fields. Colleges do far less (educating) with more money at their disposal than ever. We hire graduates all the time, but they suck ass at their jobs. I end up training them on everything they should already know. So now we don't even bother with graduates. I just train normal unskilled workers and we pay them about half of what the college kids expect for a salary.

ai is going to wipe out most coders. they coded their own demise.

The tech job gold rush is over. Companies aren't hiring graduates anymore just because they turn up to interviews. To get a job in tech (at least at top tier companies) they not only need a degree, but need demonstrable skills and knowledge that exceeds what is simply learned during university.
AI has nothing to do with it either. It's an over supply of graduates, paired with companies cutting back on numbers after their covid hiring sprees, PLUS the fact they can just get H1B jeets who can be treated like slaves.
