So much this. Now my new accounts get instabanned if I reuse the same browser and visit a group I got banned from. They're not just using cookies, they somehow manage to create a persistent identifier within my browser that I can't delete or even see. I have to erase my entire .mozilla folder (all my history, bookmarks, everything) and start from scratch, every single time I create a new account.

they have a massive user base and those users meticulously subscribe to feeds (subreddits) based around their own interests and then reddit gives that info to advertisers to better serve Redditors with targeted ads

Digits of truth. Reddit will eventually dump, it's just a matter of time. That being said, I think short term profits are possible. But in the long term, the stock will dump hard. Reddit is a shitty website and by any measure it is objectively shittier to use than at any time since it was created in 2007 or 2008.

The only time reddit was truly enjoyable was pre-2013. But it was still had value up until 2017 or 2018 when they finally banned r/incels and r/braincels. Those were some of the funniest subreddits of all time.

They reached peak censorship in 2020 with the banning of r/The_Donald.

Dissenting voices are hardly tolerated there, to the point that it's not great for discussion at all anymore, even among benign non-political topics

But the worst part? It's infested with normies and sub-normies, which are third worlders. If you sort r/all by the controversial tab, nearly half the posts are from India-centric subreddits. It's absurd. The site is completely different than it was 15 or even 10 years ago.

The userbase that made reddit addicting to browse isn't as active on there anymore. It's just constantly recycled slop. There was a time, I'd say up until 10 years ago, when Redditors would be downvoted for "reposting" which means posting something that someone else already posted. That doesn't matter anymore. The same viral posts about tsunamis or animals or survival facts get on the front page once every couple months. It's like there's a repository of content that is guaranteed to go viral every time and it just gets recycled over and over and over and there's enough people who haven't seen it or forgot about it that it get upvoted over and over.

And that's if you even believe the upvotes even determine anything anymore and isn't all completely fabricated. Even back in the mid/late 2010s reddit admitted that upvotes/down votes aren't exact anymore but instead form kind of a fuzzy logic algorithm.
