covid killed off all the boomers that were buying there.

the strong push to send packages with tracking drove up prices, as did ebay raising rates on everything. Nobody is auctioning things anymore because they know there's a solid chance it'll sell at a loss. The lack of auctions means less people looking to bid on auctions, so it becomes a feedback where auctions are a dead sector. Huge amounts of chinese crap and literal scams have clogged the searches.

For me sales died in May. Dropped from $1500 per month in sales to $150. Assumed it was a summer slump but I think something is up with ai. Was browsing my page on someone else’s laptop and next to the buy button was an “ai suggestion” to buy this same thing for however much percentage less from another eBay store. Like, why would eBay do that? Why make less in fees by directing everyone to the lowest price?

Because we're in the middle of the largest cost-of-living crisis since the Great Depression, tied with the fact that everyone is undercut by china subsidizing all their manufacturing. And since paying your own people to work is socialism the only time people buy is if it's the most dirt-cheap option they can get.

Ebay is based compared to shitmazon.
I prefer to buy vintage used items over chinese dropshipping garbage.
I sell on ebay, a lot of random stuff.
I think there's an algorithm that ranks your account, you have to list consistently and have items people want, i think most of the complaints for no sales is from hobby sellers who will only list a few things per month, your traffic dumps if you are not constantly posting, you cant really set it and forget it. Ebay wants the biggest variety of items, so they reward the most active sellers who post fresh inventory daily.
Expecting to sell all your items at once is insane, think of a grocery store, their sales are trickled in over time.

I also like to buy gold jewelry for spot or close, I've had a lot of luck buying from random normies

I noticed at least a year or two ago, after pretty steady sales for a long time, that suddenly I wasn't selling jack shit. I mean, sales had really ground to a halt (I mostly just sell my own stuff I need to get rid of; niche collectibles and pre-owned tech, etc.). I begrudgingly started promoting my listings and lo and behold, I magically started selling again. So now I let eBay rape my asshole for an additional 8-10% per transaction, but at least I actually get rid of shit. Can't imagine actually trying to run a business on that piece of shit website.

Shipping costs getting higher even on flat rate packaging. Selling fees going up in nearly all categories. It still sells for me, but the international sales fees are fucking INSANE rn, they went full mega-jews. I'm nearing 20% in fees if the buyer is foreign, ebay legit make more money than i do while they do fuck all!
I really, really need to find an alternative, but idk where to begin with, i mostly sell numismatics (ancient coins) and ebay offers the most visibility when it comes to that...
But it's so so hard to make money when you account for shipping + sale fees + taxes and all the bullcrap. If i sell a coin worth 20€, to make money out of it i basically have to find it for 10€ so i can pocket a miserable 5€. And ofc it's hard to find a 20€ coin for 10€ in the first place, because, well.. ppl are ready to pay 20 for it...

It would be a life saver if they came back down to 5% sale fees, and they definitely can, various others platforms like MKM do very well with 5%. But ebay decided to vampirize it's sellers to death out of stupid greed, it will be the death of the platform eventually.

A friend of mine is selling old books (like 16-17th century stuff) and he tells me it's such a pain in the ass because buyers always whine about dog-eared pages, old scribbles & notes, humidity spots,... minor damages of all sorts who weren't advertised. As if he could post 600 pictures so each page is covered on the auction lol..
And it can be good money, but the liquidity is so fucking low you always ends up with big inventory you hardly can get rid off, until some autist wants it.
Plus the postal services playing football with the packages so the covers/pages ends up dinged.

Selling fragile ancient items seems quite cancerous desu.

>Where do some of you nigs source at ?
ebay too lol.
My business model is i purchase coins' lots/collections from recently croaked boomies whose' kids are dumping asap for a quick buck, then i resell those individually. Sometimes it can be jackpot, best i did was a super rare norwegian 2 kroners i bought for $5 and sold back for $980 a month later. Sometimes you fuck over yourself because you have to gamble on the coins' condition/date bcuz of low res pics. And boomers were retards so a bunch of chink fakes lies in their collection, you better be very careful and know what you do.

>The good ole' days when fees were like 10%
Well technically they are at like 11.5%, so not too far off, but the fact they charge you fees on total amount (so shipping included), plus 20% taxes on the fees they make, plus various stuff mean you ends up paying much more than 11%. For me it's mainly for international shippings, locally i don't have to pay all this crap, it's just the 11% with nothing added.

>Sounds worse than selling vidya
Depends i guess, at least your main audience are mainly cultivated old white men, so they behave, are honest (but rigorous) and aren't scammers. With vidya, you have to deal with zero moral compass little pieces of zoomie shits whose modern society teached you basically have to lie and cheat to get ahead and no consequences will ever bite your ass.

I'm a bit on your segment too since i also deal with MTG cards, mainly vintage & old bordered foils (low liquidity but nice bux).

Did you purchase the 200 SNES you posted in your previous post? I don't know anything about those, but $37 seems like a good deal for a working machine.

Hey anon
I'm actually the other anon that did the Ink and work boots post earlier
I have not listed Vidya in some time, I've been focusing on the work boots and Dr. Shartens
99% of the neck beards that bought games from me where 100% great, but there was always 1 that caused me issues.
I'm going to have to start listing some of these, and the golden era of Vidya hunting is over.
As for the 200 Nintendoos
I didn't buy them ,I saved that screen shot back in like 2018, I was amazed that someone would sell that many at one time.

and some vintage models did increase in value since I bought them. the sexy daemonettes I bought as a kid sold for like 200. but nobody wants my ugly ass 80s tyranids. the idea of old shit increasing in value is partially true but mostly a boomer meme, maybe 1 percent of old shit accrues value and the rest gets thrown in a dump

Its true. The real redpill is that npcs just buy stuff on impulse.
I sell a lot of used goods and its pretty often that i sell stuff for higher than the market price.
Theres differences in consumers for each platform. I tax the zoomzooms on depop for example for the trendy y2k stuff, I manage to sell stuff for double the price on there compared to what it goes for on ebay. Ebay has a lot of boomers, amazon has the most npc consoomers. A lot of people dont compare prices because if they were smart they would be buying all the chink slop on aliexpress instead of amazon.
Another redpill is to sell stuff for women, women buy way more stuff period, 80% of all transactions in america are bought by women.
Guys buy hobby stuff and stuff they need, girls just buy whatever they come across that evokes some feelings in them.
Its fucked up but I understand why corporations target npcs so much with advertising and marketing. Theres probably people buying my stuff with klarna

Its true. It sucks that ebays estimate price is usually lowballed as fuck though.
Sometimes if I have something at $100 listed for a long time and I relist it as similar and lower it to $70 it will sell fast.
But than again sometimes people buy higher priced stuff. The other day I sold something which was available for $21 with free shipping for $28 with free shipping.

Shieeet thanks for the tip. I never tried auctions. I have built relationships with mexicans that source bulk stuff at flea markets. Vintage hats, clothes etc. Antiques aren't doing very good right now.
I do sell some printer ink sometimes.

It would be so awesome to live in LA / SAN FRAN and buy up all the stolen boosted stuff from nigger fentanyl crackheads for pennies on the dollar, though you can get pretty fucked from technically being a fence if youre unlucky. I think the Mexicans and Asians buy all that stuff and ship it to their countries

Averages to around 15% fee, I think it depends on the categories some are 10%. What's Jewish is that they apply these fees on top of shipping too because people used to list stuff for $1 with $99 shipping to avoid the fees.

A lot of people bitch about the fees but honestly its very worth it for the global reach.
There are some items that will sell for $1000 overseas to the right person, that you wouldn't even be able to sell for $5 locally. Ebay is great at finding that one buyer, the 15% is nothing vs doing all that advertising yourself.
Some people complain about scamming, I haven't experienced that very much, the times they tried to scam me ebay sided with me because they say they didnt get the package and the tracking shows delivered. Only bad thing is if you ship something very heavy like a stereo and they want to return it, it can make it not worth it and there's some people that know that and prey on that because sometimes its better to let them keep it.
I've never had someone return the wrong item.

Ebay is pretty good with high end stuff now because they authenticate it for buyers / sellers. I bought a nice $2000 gold cuban bracelet for close to spot from an account with 0 feedback and Ebay tested it for me

You can literally make millions if you have access to enough products at the right price, list hundreds of items per day and have unlimited storage to store them all. My bottleneck is finding enough items, I do about 10 listings per day right now, I would love to try to double that.
Im selling about 500 items per quarter with an average price of $65. When I was posting 5 per day it was about 350 per quarter, so its not a 1:1 increase. Im interested to know how opening another account and splitting the 10 items per day would effect the performance.
It definitely feels like their algorithm will feed you sales and keep you at certain levels in order to be able to make a full time living from it. They also want to spread around the sales so that every seller gets some sales so they dont get discouraged and quit.
My items are mostly all random so you would think the performance would vary wildly, but it doesn't and many of my associates say the same thing.
Stop posting for a week and the sales will drop. Kinda sucks I even post on the weekends, but I still prefer it over working some retail job with npcs, and dont have a jew boss who takes 90% of the fruits of my labor. at least im constantly learning about the value of random items.

Depends on what you sell. The fees are only a big problem if you're selling shit with low margins. Most of my margins are never below 200%, usually its in the thousands, but the con is that I can't get any quantity of my items, its usually one item.
The fees are also terrible for gold and silver, its impossible to sell gold for spot when you only get 85% after fees, in that industry the margins are pretty thin.

Dont the fees fuck up dropshippers?
I bought something on ebay and got it delivered by amazon and then I realized the bastard just posted an item from amazon for a higher price and tried and then just ordered it to my address, I can see the fees fucking up their little $2 profit

Its very hard to give up sources in this industry. Sourcing is pretty much a closely guarded secret amongst all resellers, I would love to help my /biz/ bros and if I was to ever divulge you guys, it would be the ones i tell.. but you fuckers would actually be competent enough to potentially be serious competition.
Theres way too much normie goy cattle niggers making tiktoks and youtube videos of them flipping $20 Starbucks mugs from the thrift store.

The best advice I can give is that knowledge is everything, the person with the right knowledge can go to a yard sale and buy a million dollar faberge egg for $10 that dozens of other dudes passed on.
after that its just buy low sell high. Buying in bulk is very powerful, that's one of the oldest ways to make money. In a way, we are carrying on the legacy the primordial profession of being a merchant.
I seriously learned a shitload of this stuff from merching on runescape as a kid. If you can successfully flip lobs, you can flip anything irl.

They had an auction/market system and I would just refresh the newest cards page for like an hour and snatch up any cards that got listed on accident. I’d keep the guys that made my team better than sold any lesser players or dupes for a profit, then do it all over again. One day it just clicked that I could do this with real money.

they must have released a new update or something and now everyone has to sell their shit units with shit stats as of the new update. summer tends to clog up the market too, shit sells much better in winter when people are stuck inside without much to do, and need to buy presents for relatives. in the summer there arent many holidays of note and people are spending their time outside, so not many people are buying warhammer shit, thus the market slows down and turns stagnant. I made like 4000 dollars selling warhammer shit last christmas, and maybe 200 this whole summer

Global economy is kill by boomers, everyone is spending all their money on basic services and rents having 0 money at the end of month, i am very worried about this unless you are in an industry targeting breeding groups like amish, religious jews, mormons or that type of group the world seems fucked.

This is worse than 2008 or 2020 i believe the current economic slowdown going on worldwide is due to demographics of too many old people and young people not only paying taxes to old people but rent leaving every industry except cleaning old people shit at nursing homes dry of income.

It's actually unbelievable how bad shit is getting it a few years ago you could build a gaming pc for 300-400 usd now it's like 1500 usd, it's as if most industries lack demand so they don't invest in increasing capacity anymore.

And as economies of scale go to shit you have things like ebay were instead of earning more with less fees they rather bleed dry the sellers.

Fuck them and their algorithm. I'm tired of dealing with this shit. I can sell things steadily on Amazon. Focusing on shipping items out not constantly listing. I have a friend who's turned flipping DVDs on eBay into a fulltime job and honestly, it's a pretty unhealthy looking life. You're assessing the value of so much junk, buying it alongside weirdos all day at thrift stores. It makes you jaded from your original passion. You become like a vulture or a rat.

It's a lot of gambling on items to resell and that fries your brain over time. I remember people calling shopping and bidding on eBay addictive back in the day, and same's true these days for selling stuff online. My friend's missing valuable life experiences with this flipping shit.

I think shipping same day and accepting returns does boost your account though. the problem is that the algorithm is a black box and there's no concrete information about it, sometimes when they tweak with it you can see a huge spike or drop in your sales/views.
I heard amazon is really good but it simply doesnt work for my niches.

Anyone ever use cross listing apps to put stuff on all the platforms? I've been meaning to look into it.
Some certain stuff sells well on postmark and mercari, it would be a pain to delete the listings after something sells, but opens a great avenue for diversifying platforms and since they all have independent algorithms you can unlock more potential sales.

Its pretty based compared to sitting in a cubicle shuffling papers around for Mr. Goldberg all day though.
Theres something very satisfying and primordial about going out into the world and scavenging for your living, its satisfying the monkey brain, when you come across good $$$ it hits the dopamine receptors. Every day looks different for me, none of my days are identical so it never gets monotonous.
The bad part is you turn into a hoarder, my mom is literally kicking me out of the house because of my hoard of inventory. Dumb bitch doesnt understand that its money, my pile of junk gets slowly converted into cash. This is different compared to typical hoarding that is just useless worthless garbage.

Im investing into vintage band tees, they seem to appreciate like fine art because there's a limited supply, after covid the value of them blew up along with all the other shit like pokemon cards, cars and watches from all the excess money. Theres raggedy faded nirvana tees that go for thousands.

The real answer is that there aren't any deals on the site anymore. It used to be the wild west where bidding was actually fun. Now sellers basically charge BRAND NEW condition pricing as the STARTING bid. What's the point? I'll just buy it brand new rather than from some dickhead who probably stole it anyway.

A lot of second hand sellers are much more aware of the secondary market value of their goods. Gone are the days of going into Goodwill or a retro game store and actually getting a steal of a deal...
