do you believe someone is going to keep living in a house as a neet when all they need is a single room or two at most? you usually sell the property and rent a small apartment. majority of people who inherit property are usually in their 50 or 60's. it wouldnt even make sense financially to keep living in that property even if you were in your 30's. rent is cheap compared to property prices nowadays.

maybe if you are renting tiny shithole apartments, but I just bought a lakehouse that I now live in and it would have been twice as expensive to rent, but now it feels like I am living in a resort every day, totally worth it.

I can't imagine how depressing it must be to live in a tiny 1 bedroom just to save some money, but it's also not like I'm poor.

Lakehouse sounds nice to retire to.
I've always fantasized about doing that but I'm trapped in leaf country so any decent lakehouse is $1m+ and crowded with neighbours and tons of bugs, and the water would be freezing cold for most of the year.
Guess I could afford it but I'd rather just retire in my 2 bedroom rent controlled apartment and save myself from an extra 10 years waging to pay it off.
