The purpose of money is to protect your time and protect anyone you love or care about. The only thing you need to be happy is free time; once you have that, you'll naturally pursue whatever activities or people that give you joy, and that doesn't come from wasting money on materialism.
Buying a supercar won't make you, but having a midday picnic in a field with friends will (which you can't do as a 9-5 slave).
