I use to work as a meltroom operator for a private minting company that handled a lot of gov minting contracts. We would get shipments of 1k bars on pallets regularly. The 1k bars included were from every precious metal refinery you could think of Perth mint, Asahi, pamp, JM bullion ect. During one rotation while getting ready to place three bars in the furnace I came across two bars stamped bunker hill with the date 1967. I just stared at them in disbelief and hesitated for minute while telling myself , these things belong in a museum. I was already committed to putting them in furnace because the copper made up for the bars to maintain the purity at .999 was already added. I still regret melting a piece of history that could have been appreciated for years to come.

I lost $10 000 on Polymarket during one of my first bets because I did not understand the interface.

For something where I was leaning mildly "this has a decent probability" (it was a multi-bracket event, not a binary "yes/no" event, I had multiple positions), I bought a few shares and I intended for it to be just $1000. But I didn't yet understand how limit orders in the context of a prediction market and the interface for them work (I'd have been fine if I bought instantly at market rates). I accidentally opened too many buy orders and went to sleep, and the next morning the likelihood had shifted dramatically unfavorably and they were now worth much less. I calculated with a $1000 dollar loss for that bracket, so I already priced that in, but I didn't calc with a $10 000 position on this shit-likelihood bracket.

(Also nowadays I find even my original $1000 was too much.)
