Why isn't Europe and Africa connected via a bridge at the strait of Gibraltar? They have the Crimean bridge, a bridge between the U.K. and France, but still no bridge that closes the gap between Spain and Morocco.

Why is that? It would boost trade between Europe and Africa, helping their economic posterity on the world stage. More economic opportunity for either citizens and allow more free travel to find work. It seems like a win-win scenario.

This is not true at all
Most southern europeans are very critical and skeptical of their own governments and admit they need support for european institutions like the EU itself and the ECB to stimulate their economies via EU funds and favourable monetary policy, just ask greek, italian, spanish and portuguese people, all of them are very pro-EU despite what the EU did to them in 2011 because they're not proud to admit that they need help like you're claiming.

1. Western North Africa is not a valuable market. Morocco Algeria Tunisia, etc etc have no economy worth building a mega bridge for. Anything worth sending to Spain could be sent by boat; it's close after all.

2. Nations south of the Sahara have valuable natural raw resources, and it's better to ship them on boats.

3. Spain's economy is weak and has few industries that needs raw resources from any part of Africa. It's better for Africa to send its goods to countries that matter (NL, UK, Germany, France) by boat. Driving through Spain is a huge waste.

Trucks are useful if you're close to the destination, and Spain, although close to North African nations, is a weak economy and is not worth driving a truck to. Same for North Africa, and not having much to buy from Spain. They need goods from far away industrial nations, not Spain.

Bridge is useless.
