Highly doubtful that store workers are trained to recognize them. Just imagine you're in the checkout line, you hand your 5 goldback bill to the clerk. they have to call the manager down to ask them what the fuck it is. The manager has no clue. People in line behind you get pissed off. You have to explain like an idiot that its real gold foil worth more than the total so you will be needing cash back. Everyone thinks you are some doomsday prepper schizo or some weird autistic incel for carrying around a large wallet full of this shit. The manager then has to call headquarters to verify because they have no idea if its fake or not. Headquarters can't verify so they have to call the united states secret service to see if its a real currency or not...and If they do come around to taking it, what the fuck are they going to do with it? they just cant put it in the cash register, because the goldbacks are much larger than bills. kek

Not recently but I bought some a while ago.
I think they're awesome and I'd love to try using them at a business someday. Will probably keep a few in my winter wallet.

I've bought a few as souvenirs. I don't live in the USA. They are beautiful, unique and very nice pieces of art. I think they are potentially a practical mechanism for using gold specie for transactions. Using physical gold for transactions keeps the system honest but gold coins are impractical for use, they are simultaneously physically too small to handle and too large in denomination to be practical for typical purchases.

Goldbacks neatly solve the problem in a counterfeit resistant, tamper evident, nondestructively verifiable format that is esthetically pleasing.

They need a proper non-folding wallet to keep them flat. That is the only downside of Goldbacks. The fact that the different denominations are different physical sizes is in my opinion a good thing. I just wished that I lived in a jurisdiction where I could buy them over the counter instead of mail ordering them with a huge premium.

I have a proper wallet to store them long-term, and the large ones, but there's nothing wrong with keeping a few 1s in a folding wallet. They are sturdy enough to hold up to it and it makes you more likely to actually USE them like you should do.
