>there are "people" on this board still investing in L1s even though every single institution in the world is building their own

ETH is the only L1 needed. No one wants their real assets on a centralized shitchain run by commies.

This. Nobody will use a private pausable banker chain with no interoperability to trade between nations that don’t necessarily have good relations when they can use something neutral with robust liquidity and 100% uptime.

Always funny to me how these companies would rather build their own shit rather than just work with others who have paved the roads. Coinbase and base chain are the the worst offenders right now. There are some talented teams that aren't in their cabal and they act like they dont exist and are instead stealing their ideas and then will push it as if they thought of it.

Chainlink solves this

You're missing half the picture here, the future is cross chain - obviously the whole system misses out on its full potential if there aren't ways to pipe liquidity from one chain to another. CCIP solves this, but that's beside the point. The realization here should be that there's no reason for any L1s that don't provide either a highly established network effect (Ethereum) or do things in some revolutionary new way (Sui, Aptos, maybe Solana but I hate it's entire design). L2s remain valuable as a cheaper, more centralized platform to build with programmable money, this is where most indie builders and degens will probably end up, you're seeing this now with Base, but for more "legitimate" financial instruments you'll bridge back to some bank's private chain, probably only contains on chain financial products that will be abstracted away from the average normie. So yes, L1s matter.

I cannot imagine a stupider thing than attempting your own l1

5m in one of those technical eth talks makes me want to blow my brains out. Intakes a special kind of hubris to be in a totally tangential field and think you can just spin up a dev team to make an l1
