You're missing half the picture here, the future is cross chain - obviously the whole system misses out on its full potential if there aren't ways to pipe liquidity from one chain to another. CCIP solves this, but that's beside the point. The realization here should be that there's no reason for any L1s that don't provide either a highly established network effect (Ethereum) or do things in some revolutionary new way (Sui, Aptos, maybe Solana but I hate it's entire design). L2s remain valuable as a cheaper, more centralized platform to build with programmable money, this is where most indie builders and degens will probably end up, you're seeing this now with Base, but for more "legitimate" financial instruments you'll bridge back to some bank's private chain, probably only contains on chain financial products that will be abstracted away from the average normie. So yes, L1s matter.
