When I was a kid you were pretty much guaranteed a job no matter your education. That job would be 40 hours per week and pay enough for you to survive alone in a place of your own, paying all your own bills. You could expect to work your entire adult life for the same employer if you wanted to, and you could expect a week of vacation a year and some sort of retirement at the end. Most people worked the same job at the same location for their entire lives

Why is that? Who is cutting away at job positions. People say it's AI, but I doubt it, since AI seems to be a meme mostly.

I graduated at the end of 2011 and had a hell of a time getting a job in accounting. I didn't know anyone in the industry, which really screwed me hard. I found low pay work doing bookkeeping for a plumber in a ghetto. Kind of place with shootings and robberies in the news all the time. Eventually a friend of my mom who worked in sales got me an accounting job. The job barely did any accounting, just data entry. However there was an opportunity to take over sales tax stuff. They had an outside accounting firm doing that. So my next job got me hired for sales tax. So it took me 11 years to actually have a job that used my education.

The problem is the kids arent told, and more importantly, dont want to work for 5-20 years to become expert in a field, and therefore rise to the top of the pay scale. You cant skip the cutting and grinding phase of becoming a polished precious stone.
